Hello Ella,
Trying to find the a way forward can be really difficult, frustrating and take time.
Taking laxatives every day I found was irritating my intestines, so I recorded every day: food, pain/bloating, BMovements, exercise, until I found a pattern in my system.
I eat Low Fodmap Nutrition which does not limit me in making delicious meals, eating the right fruit and vegetables, and minimise irritating the gut to make it bloat.
I also try to keep active every day, go for walks, meditate with yogic breathing which balances the mindset.
My pattern is having BM's 3- 4 days, then they stop for 4 days which are the better days for me as no movement in my transverse colon or bowel means no nerve pain or myofascial pain.
After 3 days of no BM I take 1 sachet of Laxido at night. This starts towards the process of getting movement. Depending on how my gut feels the next night, I take another Laxido or leave it until the folowing night so I don't irritate my guts too much making them bloat.
Sometimes it takes only 2 Laxido nights, sometimes 3. Then the BM's start for another 3-4 days then the pattern is repeated.
Medications all have side effects, it's finding what works for you and helps you. Doctors recommend daily doses, but I have tailored them to suit my needs and How I Feel. The latter is really important, You are in control of your condition and how you want to manage it.
I was put on daily 20mg Amitriptyline which made me feel like a zombie and made my IBSC worse. But it does help me sleep when the pain is bad. So I take 10mg only when I need to.
A doctor at the hospital I saw recently told me I know more about how to manage my IBSC and relevant medication that works for me, far better than she could advise as I am the person living it, and it is such a unique condition for each individual there is no one size medication/management plan that fits all.
So Emma, I am sure if you start to keep a diary, even just for a month, you will start to see your own pattern, and find a balance with nutirition, exercise, mindset and how/what medication works for you.
Once you Feel In Control I am sure life will be more manageable and you will make steps forward.
Wishing you well.......
