Oh heavens Rustyrose I am so sorry. If you are a carer I would go back and get a second opinion and say you need help as you cannot care for your charge as you feel unwell. Wish you good luck🍀

I'm not sure what infected diverticulitis is. Was it an abcess? If so, it really needs some strong antibiotics. Definitely get a second opinion.

Did your doctor give a reason for not prescribing antibiotics?

I would think antibiotics are the standard treatment for infected diverticulitis! There may also be effective herbal medicines.

But it doesn't sound right that you weren't offered treatment.

Maybe yes, you should get a second opinion from another doctor. I hope they are more helpful.

Hopefully there's another clinic close by where you can register.

If it gets really bad just go to A&E. They will help you probably.

Infected diverticulitis can cause your bowel to perforate. I'm amazed your doctor just said basically "be on your way"!!If you feel any worse you must go to hospital xxx

I would create a fuss, when my diverticuliti gets infected it really hurts my lower left feels like I am being stabbed, call 111 tell them your pain is very bad they can prescribe antibiotics for you to collect from pharmacy. Just bypass your GP, they are not doing their best for you, unless there are other issues why you can’t have antibiotics?

My GP does not have an out of hours service as such, I have to call 111 and am referred to a Doctors on Call service at the local hospital after going through a triage type call. If your GP does the same or similar, it might be worth making a call after hours saying you are in severe pain etc., That way you get a second opinion.

this is serious stuff if you have diverticulitis-my sister has ended up in the hospital twice when there was infection-if you have emergency rooms available, I would go there for help before it gets worse. not trying to scare you but this is nothing to fool with

Read this book by Gabor Mate--When The Body Says No: The Cost Of Hidden Stress. by Gabor Maté. Paperback. You can find it on Amazon. The doctor should have heard those words--I am a carer, He has not been trained to listen. I would definitely seek another opinion. It is time for you to explore the why not the what. Take care and a great big hug to you.

Read Gabor Mate's book about --What the Body knows--I will post a link and demand another appointment with a specialist whose ears are not a decorative item. The give away for him should have been the word carer--but they never seem to follow up on the questions that would give them some insite

I would recommend seeing another doctor immediately - an infection like this needs treatment as soon as possible otherwise there could be real complications such as Sepsis- call the 111 number or go to A&E as soon as you can, and you should put in a complaint about the doctor, that attitude is shocking. I hope you get things sorted out soon.

Hi Rustyrose, I can't help you with your question apart from agreeing it seems clear you must seek a second opinion from another doctor. From reading other replies it sounds as if this could be serious so don't wait. Best of luck
