Worrying Again..

So I have had Ibs for around 3yrs after a bout of Campylerbacter.. Its only occurred about every 6 months and not been severe, but Ive had what I think is a bout for about 3 months now.. Im awaiting a scan to be on the safe side..(Im 62).I was losing weight and found out it was due to an overactive thyroid, which has now settled, but the Ibs hasnt. My main problem is bloating, and a dull ache., with a bout of diarrhea thrown in every couple of weeks..Ive cut out gluten which helps a bit...I have 2 or 3 good days then it starts up again..Ive had tests for inflammation, and blood in stool..Both negative..Had a "squeaky clean" colonoscopy about 5 years ago.., also a hysteroscopy last year Weight now stabilised.. Does this sound like IBS?I do worry as it appeared late in life.. I have health anxiety which doesnt help.. any thoughts very welcome..thankyou.D.x

It sounds like a definite possibility. Have you talked to anyone on the medical side about it?

Hi..Yes I spoke to a GP a while ago.. The feeling was that when my thyroid meds sorted out my Overactive thyroid, my stomach issues would resolve, but its still going on,so waiting for a scan..Thankyou for your input.D..

A scan will help. Usually, IBS is diagnosed by a process of elimination. Has anyone mentioned the possibility of IBS yet?

Yes it has.Apparently Post Infection IBS is common after food poisoning.. I just want to be sure as apparently its less common to develop Ibs when you are older..D.

I would have thought that IBS could occur at any age, particularly when a gut infection has been involved. Have you tried Alflorex probiotic, which has been scientifically studied for IBS? It contains a particularly strong strain normally passed from mother to baby during a natural birth to prime the gut's defences and might be helpful in bringing things back in balance after a gut infection.

Just based on the people on this forum, it seems to affect all ages
