Hi there everybody.

Has anyone had mild inflammation detected in there stool before with ibs? I'm still suffering from lower abdominal pain and loose stool. I'm awaiting to see a GI specialist soon but was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge on this.

Thank you 🙂

Yes I had that. While waiting for GI you could try anti-inflammatory diet as well as letting your gut rest to heal.

I had a raised calprotectin of 198 on a stool sample. It should be below 50 and over 200 was classed as a positive rest, so borderline. They told me to stop taking any ibuprofen as that could cause it, although I didn't take it very often. After a couple of months they repeated it and it was below 50.

Hi there, Yes it was very strange to hear that from the doctor and it really has me worried. The doctor also said that to me about taking ibuprofen, but like you I don't really go near it? I have to repeat the stool test again in the a couple of weeks time.

Thank you very much for you're reply 🙂

I had a score of 327, which was really high and was still diagnosed with IBS after colonoscopy. I believe that my high inflammation was caused by the high protein, low fibre diet that nutritional therapists put me on. There have been clinical studies that have proven that this type of diet can cause inflammation in the body, due to the lack of fibres to feed the microbiome which helps to keep the colon healthy.

Hi there,

Wow that's a really high score isn't it! Maybe it is something to do with my diet? The doctor didn't tell me what I scored on the stool test, she just said it was mild inflammation and she didn't seem to concerned about it but she said that she would send me to a GI specialist as I'm still experiencing symptoms and they have been on going for over 2 months. I've already had a colonoscopy around 6 months ago which was all clear? Numerous blood test which have all been clear, an ultrasound that was all clear and all so a ct scan last year that was all clear. My body really has me confused and worried.

Thank you very much for your reply 🙂

Worry is natural Macca, so try not to worry about worrying (hope that makes sense).

Since I had covid back in 2020, it triggered something that heightened all my inflammatory issues ( IBS-D, reynauds, joint pain etc). They're still trying to diagnose the root cause of these worsened symptoms - most likely Sjogrens - but I've been managing my IBS-D for years, following FODMAP, which identified which foods generate an inflammatory response. Do an internet search for FODMAP guides - especially the work done by Monash University in Australia.

One thing I do notice is that symptoms seem to worsen for me during ovulation and menstruation.

Wishing you well

Hi, I've been having tummy issues for a while on and off. I had gastritis and a positive h pylori test 2 years ago which I was treated for. I had endoscopy last year which didn't show anything of note. For a few months I've had episodes of mucus in stool, still tummy pain. I think I have constipation issues even though I go every day usually. I've had2 clear F I T tests since last year. I went to GP 3 weeks ago because I was worrying about it. I had blood tests and they did another FIT test and calprotectin test. Bloods were fine apart f I'm my cholesterol being borderline. FIT test negative but the said calprotectin test borderline with at 63, negative is below 50. I've been asked to do a repeat stool sample for that so have to do that. I had taken ibuprofen a couple of weeks before that test as I'm also having hip pain which I'm having x-ray for next month. I'm hoping my next result will be lower and it was just the ibuprofen causing the borderline result. Not sure why the mucus though, although I know constipation can cause this as well as inflammation. I'm thinking of changing my diet but then again too much fibre gives me stomach ache, you just can't win with it. I've not been diagnosed with IBS but I think it may be that. Had tummy issues most of my life and suffered horrendously with constipation as a child. Will just have to see what this repeat test shows and maybe stop worrying that it's something serious. I hope you get some answers for you to put your mind at rest. 👍

Hi there,

Wow its sounds like your going through and been through alot, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get some answers too.

I'm just really worried at the moment as my pain has been non stop for 2 months and my pain is localised mainly in the lower left quadrant and when I prod around there it really hurts. I'm constantly bloated with loose stools but have constipated pains and chest pains. My anxiety is through the roof and I'm thinking all sorts of bad things as you can imagine.

I have got to do a fit test for tomorrow and then I have to do another stool sample in 2 weeks time to check the inflammation levels again. I'm also booked in to see a GI specialist but god knows when that will be.

I'm just hoping and praying that it's nothing serious

Thank you very much for you're reply 🙂
