Hello! Since October 11th I’ve been experiencing on and off mucus in my stool. Some days my bowel movements are *normal* and some days it’s all mucus, and I have the CONSTANT urge to go to the bathroom, and I can’t hold it, but when I go it’s just mucus.
Probably about 5 times since this has began I have been having a red jelly like mucus,
Im calling my doctor in the morning, but wanted to get insight!

your symptoms would warrant a stool test for infection and inflammation. If your lucky enough to get seen by gp they might check you physically in case of haemorrhoids or fissure and they will take it from there I have ulcerative colitis which I had symptoms of while pregnant 21 years ago I only had first colonoscopy 5 years ago as they said I was neurotic due to normal bloods and my child has severe special needs. Thankfully the stool test are widely used now and will get you referred quickly. Let us know how you get on. Fingers crossed
You are right to call doctor, since anything you are concerned about should be discussed with them.
Sometimes you can pass just mucus if you have impacted stool from severe constipation. The gut produces extra mucus to try to help ease things out, but sometimes that mucus escapes around the impacted stool and you feel the urge to go but just have mucus. If the doctor confirms that you are severely constipated, they will recommend something to get over this hurdle. If it is constipation, in the long run dietary measures might be needed such as increasing fibre intake.
