That's an interesting read (except that white lettering on black background does something to my eyes! and I am seeing white stripes for ages after! lol)

It's so good to find a cure by accident like that. Boswelia....that's interesting.

I dont have any experience with boswellia but seems to help inflammation, joint pain and inflammatory bowel disease.

No, I haven't tried it either. I have heard it's good for inflammation, yes. Its other name is Frankincense, and it is very healing for many things. It is one of my favourite smells!

Yep, I am seeing stripes now too.

(The) white stripes, nice music but depends on my mood. Sometimes brown stripes in my underpants when things aren't going so well 💩

Might give it a try, boswellia. Also because of its antimicrobial properties. Would add it to my current regime of natural antimicrobials; berberine/allicin/cinnamomum verum or try it on its own, without the other natural products. Maybe this is a better idea because then I could better feel/notice the impact it has (or not) on my symptoms and overall health/wellbeing.

"Dietary Boswellia serrata Acid Alters the Gut Microbiome and Blood Metabolites in Experimental Models" (on mice 😉)

"It has been well-established that AKBA has anti-bacterial and antifungal activity [13]. However, the exact mechanism of antimicrobial action is not clearly established, as multiple studies have contradicting conclusions based on Gram stain, as inactivation does not seem to correlate with Gram status [14,15,16].

In this study, we investigated the effect AKBA on the gut compositions of both healthy male and female mice. We also examined the antibacterial effect of AKBA through in vitro assays. Along with this, as changes in the gut microbiome are linked to changes in circulating metabolites within the body [17], we also investigated differences in blood metabolites. Isolated AKBA itself contains no fiber or polyphenols and any changes to the gut microbiome would be due to a newly reported compound. To our knowledge, this is the first paper to report the effects of AKBA on the gut microbiome and the changes this causes in blood metabolites."

Just started taking boswellia serrata, 1 capsule twica a day. Each capsule contains 100mg boswellia extract and 20mg AKBA.

I will not combine it with the other natural antimicrobial supplements I took. (berberine/cinnamomum/allicin). Now it's just wait and feel what it does in the weeks to come. 🤞🏻, again 😉

Beneficial Effects on Abdominal Bloating with an Innovative Food-Grade Formulation of Curcuma longa and Boswellia serrata Extracts in Subjects with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Small Bowel Dysbiosis

source:mdpi.com/2072-6643/14/3/416

"Conclusions

In conclusion, the strength of our study is that, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first controlled clinical research project in which abdominal bloating in IBS subjects with small bowel dysbiosis has been successfully treated with a concomitant supplementation with extracts of Curcuma longa and Boswellia serrata (as curcumin boswellia phytosome) and LFD. Moreover, this is one of the few studies in which abdominal bloating has been evaluated as a primary endpoint in IBS patients and one of the few studies in which LFD has been tested to treat IBS in a Mediterranean country.

Our results should be confirmed by larger trials, with longer duration of supplementation."

I take boswellia as an antimicrobial for my IBS symptoms because of suspected dysbiosis and do not combine it with curcuma, as was done in this study.

I do take other over the counter supplements like a multi vitamin and one prescription medication (venlafaxine) for major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). Also need to take a laxative several times a day because of the problems with the (slow) transit in my intestines. Could be the result of the excessive gas in my small bowel caused by the suspected dysbiosis, methane overgrowth . Test for hydrogen was okay but methane couldn't be tested in the hospital. Waiting for a reply from the tertiary hospital, my GP wrote a referral because I still want to discuss the idea to treat the suspected methane overgrowth with regular antibiotics (a tetracycline or amoxicillin cluvanic acid, I do remember that both of these antibiotics had a positive effect on my overall health and quality of life during the time I took one of these). But if boswellia serrata should be effective for me, this wouldn't be necessary after all.

I'll look forward to hearing, hope it doesnt take 6 weeks for you to get relief.

Normally I would notice slight change in how I feel/behave in about a week after I started taking a supplement. At least that is my experience till now when taking supplements. It seems that that is the amount of time my bowels/body needs to adjust to a new substance. It also depends on the dosage needed and that is just trial and error I'm afraid.

I hope it helps, Meleber, and I can't see that it will do any harm at least. I would be interested to hear about how you go with it.

Will have an appointment in the second week of December at a tertiary (University) hospital so I can discuss the chronic cyclic use of an antibiotic to alleviate my symptoms. I still suspect dysbiosis, methane SIBO/IMO based on my experiences with some systemic antibiotics in the past.

And about the boswellia serrata, I do notice a slight improvement in how I feel and behave but still do have ongoing 'pain' in my bowels and excessive, trapped gas amongst others. But it seems that I do have a little bit more energy. Not much, but it is an encouraging sign. It's just too early to tell how effective boswellia serrata will be in treating my IBS related symptoms.

Since a few days I noticed that my stool is getting better, more solid and less overflow diarrhoea. I also do think I'm a little less bloated. I must add that I changed the kind of bread I'm eating also. I now eat corn bread instead of white bread.

It does feel however that there's still too much (sticky) fecal material in my ascending colon but this could also still be the trapped gas giving me this feeling.

Unfortunately I don't notice other substantial changes in my overall wellbeing till now.

During the first couple of days after I started taking boswellia serrata I thought I was getting more energy but it didn't last. But I just started a fortnight ago so maybe a bit more patience from my side.

I did decide to reduce the dosage and now only take one capsule with boswellia serrata of the brand Vitals. I should have started with one capsule in first instance but I tend to get too enthusiastic in trying something new. Start low and go slow, I keep forgetting this sound advice.

If I don't feel any improvements in my overall health in the next two weeks to come I most probably will try andrographis instead, I already bought this natural product @ Hidden .

After some further reading I decided to switch to andrographis (kalmegh) already and stopped taking boswellia serrata. I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist in 4 weeks so than I also can tell the consultant if andrographis is actually making a difference for me / my symptoms.

Did increase the dosage kalmegh/andrographis with one capsule 400mg andrographis /40mg andrographolide since two days. Now have to wait and feel again if it will get somewhat better or not.

Feeling somewhat better but still chronic problems in and with my guts. Did also add berberine and butyrate. I have been using these two supplements in the past. This combination seems to give me some alleviaton, a bit more energy, for the moment.
