IBS-D tip

hi all!

I thought I would post something that’s helped me recently with my IBS D. I have had IBS-D strongly for around 2 years more recently getting worse. I’m ‘controlling’ currently with Amitriptyline and imodium. Some days good some days bad.

My biggest fear has been car journeys, resulting in me being a little housebound for a few months until recently. I purchased a portable car toilet online and I have to say it’s been a life saver. I don’t know if it’s a mind thing, just knowing it’s there if need it, but it’s helped me so much. I can park my car and know if I absolutely have to, I can rush back and know there is a toilet there all be it a small one. I can go on long car journeys and know I can pull over and use it when safe, or even so when I am a passenger I can use it too. I mean it’s not ideal, but it’s given me some confidence to start doing things I’ve been putting off for a while.

I have a handy bag of toiletries that I take with me too incase I need to use it involving tissue, bags, hand sanitiser etc.

Using this along with tena pads have helped me tremendously. I thought I would share in hopes it may help someone else!

HI I'm finding that I am managing to control my IBS D like you, I have been on Amitriptyline for 5 years now for headaches initially and also imodium if I'm going out somewhere especially when travelling , t seems to work. I get extremely anxious if stuck in a traffic jam or any situation where there is no access to a toilet.

what mg of Amitriptyline are you on? It’s horrible isn’t it. I always just have to forward plan my journeys and if I’m ever going anywhere, knowing whether the toilets are. But having this loo in the car seems to ease my mind a little!
