I'm at my end: Hi all. Been on here for this but... - IBS Network
I'm at my end
I wonder if that could be something to do with the nerves? I get an irritated nerve in my leg, (not connected with IBS as far as I know) and that causes a weird endless itching in my foot or ankle as well as other symptoms. It stops and goes away then comes back if I overwork physically. Could you ask your doctor about maybe it being a neurological thing? I don't know. But if you were referred to a neurologist, there might be some help?
If the doctor has done all the tests for viral / bacterial and fungal infections and they were negative , and has ruled out skin conditions like eczema it could be hypersensitivity or an often missed condition called neuropathic itch.Have you ruled out allergy reactions like toiletry products , washing powder , synthetic clothing , tight clothing , even sanitary products for periods and even toilet roll.
If so , the neuropathic itch may be it , and they may be able to give you a similar medication short term for it.
Could you have Rectocele?
Hi Contra31. I know it is of no consolation but I have also suffered from this debilitating symptom. Mine disappeared on its own after having used all sorts of creams, lotions, etc. I don’t know how it started or why but it just disappeared on its own accord.Did the doctor examine you for internal hemorroids?
Could you have Lichen Sclerosis as your symptoms seem very similar to mine and after tests my doctor confirmed that I had this.
I am suffering very similar symptoms terrible pain from my anus, itching constantly sore all day long, bad constipation or diarrhoea, doctors keep saying it is IBS, that doesn’t help me at all I can’t help but worry about it, it rules my entire life, I am withdrawing from Amitryptiline an anti depressant which is highly addictive I can only assume it could be severe withdrawel, I am on another forum for weaning of this evil drug and most people are having digestive and anal problems I am banking that this is the problem and I One month I will be off it. You really are not on your own this forum is brilliant for getting help and getting things of your chest.
I was only on amitryptiline for a few days (on a low dose) and stopped taking it after being unable to eat certain gas causing foods without being in extreme pain.. Broccoli, salad, onions, garlic- healthy foods I love eating ended up causing chest pains. Since stopping it I still can't tolerate most of those foods. It wrecked my digestion. Had to have an upper endoscope done and it showed gastritis with Barrett's esophagus forming, thankfully without dysplasia. Now doc says I need to stay on prilosec indefinitely.. Never needed it before I took the Elavil! That drug is so nasty!! I had no idea it was so hard on your stomach or I never would have taken it. Right there with you!!
Not off the Amitryptiline yet been having alternate constipation and diarrhoea quite bad, it is a problem not knowing which is causing my symptoms my Ibs or my withdrawel, I cannot plan anything because I don’t know how I am going to feel or what pain I am going to suffer yet there is odd days where I feel normal but hey presto the following day I spent with my feet up because of the chronic pain, it really gets to me I used to be very fit and bubble person.
Hi, I had a soap intolerance that caused similar symptoms. Took me a few months to figure this out but switching to soap free wash has been great. Hope you identify the trigger and get some relief.
I had a similar situation. I was told to use no soap on the entire area, just water, just pat dry, son't scratch, which can make it worse, don't wear underpants to bed -- only a nightgown. Also test for parasites and ova. Don't use any rough towel or face cloth. Try hard not to scratch. If it extends to the vaginal area ask about an estrogen cream. (I don't think this will do anything for the anal area.)
