Hi Basil I am certain that if you tell the team looking after you tomorrow how you feel they will help you Reassure you Personally I would go for sedation Why put yourself through something when you can have it done sedated You are awake but feel dreamy The nurses will let you know what's going on, where they are in the procedure Fear of unnatural things to us is usual Try to distance yourself keep thinking soon be over and then I'm home I really wish you the very best you will be strong and fine šŸ§” xx

Good luck for your gastroscopy, Basil. It won't take long. It will be over so quickly, so look forward to about midday when it will all be finished and you will be able to relax and hopefully come back to your favourite spot at home, and favourite things to do while resting.

I would recommend sedation, from my own experience. My thoughts and prayers are with you

I've had a couple of gastroscopies both with no sedation, hopefully no more but good luck with yours. The good thing is these are over with quite quickly.

Hi Basil, like you I was terrified before I had mine last week. Take the sedation before, also I was offered a throat spray (which tasted of bananas) which I took and it numbed my throat. I was afraid I would gag but I didn't.. hardly felt a thing and it was all over within 5 minutes.Hope yours goes well this time.

Good luck hope all goes well

Donā€™t be! I recently had a third one ( over time!) but on this occasion opted for the sedative. Didnā€™t feel a thingā€¦.. nothing!

Take the plunge and go for a sedative. I wish you well.

I think youā€™re probably getting ready for the procedure now, but just in caseā€¦ I had my first last year and took the sedation. It was a breeze - in fact I donā€™t remember a single second of it!! Worst bit for me was the cannula because i hate needles! Itā€™ll all be fine x

Hi Basil. My first one was a nightmare, no sedation which was my choice. When I had a 2nd one again no sedation. The nurse was lovely and asked if I had any worries, I told her about the first one and she gave me extra puffs of spray which helped. I think also, as I knew what to expect it made it easier. It's not enjoyable and it has to be done, you will be fine, just concentrate on your breathing. Good luck :)

Please try not to worry too much about it. I had one recently, and was given the choice of anesthetic injection, or just the throat spray. I chose just the spray, as I had to minimize my recuperation time. And yes, it was uncomfortable, but was advised to breathe in and out as normal. It was over within about five minutes. I hope this helps.

Just curious what made the first one a disaster. Maybe you can share that with the care team and they can adjust accordingly. Good luck!

They didnā€™t offer me any throat spray only very light sedation so I remember all of it and 4 of them held me down. I even paid for the experience as it was through private healthcare. I have to say the experience yesterday on the NHS at Dorset county hospital was brilliant.

Hello BasilGThe GOOD PART IS COMING SO

DONT WORRY!šŸ˜Š

So....ive had 2 in the last 10 weeks

The first was absolutely horrific -cldnt continue as i kept pulling at the tube. Im asthmatic & i felt like i was being pinned down

I said never ever again i ended up on steroids from the stress of it all

Its all about communication

I had the top dog for the 2nd a lady

She said you dont need the mouthguard not necessary at all if it makes you ill

They gave me xtra pillows so i didnt have to lie flat & more sedation

IT WAS A BREEZE & i now know i could go through it again!!

Just say how you feel etc...

VERY QUICK WHEN DONE WITH CARE

GOOD LUCKšŸ¤—

Iā€™ve had 2, I was so scared the first time. The second one was nowhere near as bad, I had no sedation either time. I think nerves play a big part in the way you experience things so try and keep calm and I agree with Jasper, donā€™t have the mouth guard if you want to feel more in control. Let us know how you get on.

Good morning, thank you all for your kind thoughts and advice, it was a breeze! The team were lovely, kept me calm and told me to focus on my breathing, had the throat spray which is not very pleasant and I could feel the panic when it was becoming numb as you do feel as if you canā€™t breathe but they told me to focus on breathing, I opted for sedation and next thing I know itā€™s done!Itā€™s all good so now I can relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Well done Basil! So glad it all went well for you. :)
