Not sure if it’s a food intolerance and sometimes I do think I’m mental 🤣 I take citilopram for anxiety not sure which came first the ibs or the anxiety x

If you've got anxiety then it is a mental ibs. Very hard to deal with. I'm on sertralene ,!

I try to avoid stress if I can ! Virtually impossible anxiety causes all sorts of physical problems , insomnia is the worst for me x

IBS gives me wind and other stuff which makes me very uncomfortable .... and that makes me very anxious about eating and then sleeping which makes IBS worse. Lovely vicious circle. Wondering if I should add something like Xanax to my collection (as well as the mental tricks), but benzos and I have history.

At least you have a sense of humour, that's the one thing you do need with IBS! Sending you kindness and understanding. ❤️

How are you doing now? Are you still getting the fibro pains?

Arkus profile image
Arkus in reply to Maureen1958

Me too. Mine a gift from my late husband. In my experience it’s not either/or, mental or physical. It’s mental causing a physical change in the body, ie IBS, which lasts forever as far as I know and has to be managed after getting the stress under control, in my case sertraline for 15 years!

Maureen1958 profile image
Maureen1958 in reply to Arkus

Do you think the sertraline is good? I assume you do if have been taking it that long. Does it have any effect on the IBS ie make you more constipated or the other way?

Yes. It's a bloody vicious circle. Don't think Al ever be free , pain's all over !!

Stay off the benzos if you can. They'll help with sleep and pain in the short term but once you develop tolerance, that's the slippery slope. Been there

These things come and go with me but definitely groin/lower bowel at times. I thought my back ache was from poor fitness level and sitting too much .....its very hot and humid where I am so long walks etc are not happening much. Hope you can get rid of pains soon. My worst is stomach gas at night and cant really work out why it comes and goes, except maybe fizzy liquids and alcohol.

Hi… mine is stress related, I was bad for about 12 months and linked it to neighbours in first lockdown and not going to the gym… was pain free for months until 2 weeks ago..

Things got busy in work and I haven’t been able to go to the gym, pain in left side in the evening and wakes me up in the night, hardly any symptoms in the day when I am busy…..I took my running machine out of storage and have set it up so if it rains I can still walk and run.. hoping this helps and trying not to stress about things…

Pain is always right sided and the only thing that helps is a hot water bottle. Occasionally I have a feeling like a bubble bursting-I explained that once as a goldfish opening its mouth under water to a GP, never again 🤣

Andann profile image
Andann in reply to ValDee88

The bubble bursting (or gurgling) is probably gas . Try Degas tablets from pharmacy or other remedies suggested on here.

I have severe pain 24/7 keeps me awake every night. I'm so exhausted, I wish I was dead sometimes

Thats more likely to be sciatica, I 've had that recently........look up exercises to relieve it on internet, they work. My physio said to make sure when flexing your leg, e.g. on a chair, that you move your head back and forward as you do it to relieve pinching of the nerves. Hard to describe in text! Hope thats it and fairly easily solved.
