Is this a “flare up” I have diverticulitis and they said presume Ibs🤷‍♀️, and I stay gf and df as they said could help lol

Thanks x

Just guessing, but it could be a flare up of the IBS. That can make someone feel pretty rough. I can feel like I have food poisoning during a particularly bad flare up. I remember one embarrassing incident when I accused a supermarket of supplying me frozen fish which caused food poisoning!

It didn't turn out to be that at all, just the horrible IBS having a hissy fit. I put 2 and 2 together when I tried that same fish from the same bag again later on and was fine!

But that gives you an idea how bad an IBS flare up can feel.

Or, it may be a tummy bug? I can't say really.

Check your temperature. If it's diverticulitis (as opposed to diverticulosis) that means you may need an antibiotic. Fever, maybe some nausea, and pain, maybe quite strong pain, is common during a diverticulitis flare.

Call 111 if you're not sure or can't get help from your local GP.

As someone who almost died from diverticulitis and also have had recurrences because of scarring from colostomy and reversal, strong pain, for me, means a quick trip to the Emergency Room.

Oh yes, right. With your history strong pain could be deadly serious. I hope it doesn't get that bad. Take care,

Hi, sorry to hear you’re not having a good time. All I can do is pass on what keeps me on the level. I have diverticulosis and ‘fast transit IBS’ so my default condition is permanent diahorria, feeling sick and having no energy. After a lot of trial and error what works for me at the moment is plenty of natural fibre I.e. fruit, vegetables & high fibre bran cereal, probiotics in the morning and fibogel at night. Ginger helps keep my stomach calm too. It might take a while to find a balance that works for you but be patient, it’s worth it!

I find a lot of fruit and veg and fibre makes me worse ? I take a probiotic daily

It’s annoying isn’t it! What I’ve learned is everyone is different so what suits me may not suit others. Just a suggestion to slow down your insides if fruit & veg fibre makes you worse- I find that psyllium husk, flaxseed and chia seed each morning keeps things from happening too quickly. Live natural yogurt helps no end too. Keep experimenting, you’ll find your balance eventually 😊

Yes I have to be careful with fibre too (IBS D mainly) Some days I can eat more, but have to watch out. I can almost always manage 2 or sometimes 3 portions of certain veggies per day, but the more of that I have the less fibre I can have in other ways. So I sacrifice fibre in other foods, and just make sure I eat the veggies that I find suit me.

With some people it's different but I could never get my head around why fibre (which always, through my life, made me "go" or act as a kind of laxative) is helpful for loose stools!

I have tried both types of fibre (soluble and insoluble) and generally they all make me "go". to one degree or another. But sometimes my body is less upset by fibre, and sometimes more.

"I have diverticulitis and they said presume Ibs🤷‍♀️, and I stay gf and df as they said could help lol" It is difficult to read your post when you use so many abbreviations.

I also have IBS and diverticular disease. When symptoms are worse than normal, and they are always painful, I contact the GP for a blood test that measures the amount of infection. If normal then it is usually IBS flare, if above normal it is usually diverticulitis. I then get antibiotics to try to clear it up. Hope this helps you.
