Thank you Fencinggirl, a very interesting article and one that gives us a little hope for an effective treatment in the future. My father and grandmother had IBS and I have several cousins on my father's side of the family who suffer from it too. We all have/had IBS C with exactly the same pattern of symptoms, so I always believed that there was some inherited predisposition to the condition.
Really interesting. I must try and find the original study.
I was told by a specialist that because my grandfather had ulcerative colitis and I've 2 first cousins with chrones then I was predisposed to bowel diseases. My son has developed IBS too. I kind of had an idea that it was genetic but it's good to see the theory supported by research.
