I had a complete hysterectomy Friday due to endometriosis, we thought it was on my bowel however the surgeon said my symptoms were caused by a floppy bowel which is most likely been caused by my ibs and that I need to be referred to a gastroenterologist for treatment etc , he didn't tell me what a floppy bowel means I haven't been referred and my doctor has no record of it on my surgery notes, what is floppy bowel what's the treatment and do I need to be concerned?
What is floppy bowel?: I had a complete... - IBS Network
What is floppy bowel?
looks like it has to do with the structure of your colon
Did you have the hysterectomy because of bowel syptoms? I'm asking this because I have been told that my constipation is because of a large fibroid and that I need a hysterectomy. I have also been told that I have a redundant colon, which means it is longer than normal.(simialar to 'floppy bowel') I don't want to go through with hysterecomy if this is not causing the problem.
I had endometriosis, they thought it was on my bowel as I bled from the back during periods I go for a week with no bowel movement or I go 8 times a day with diaraha , my surgery went ok removed the disease from where it was and preformed hysterectomy, the surgeon said that there was no endometriosis on my bowel but that I had a floppy bowel most likely caused by IBS I need to be referred for it , but he didn't explain what it is etc I've phoned the hospital but I have to wait for them to call back in the meantime I m going out of my mind
They may be referring to a 'redundant colon'. It is where the colon is longer than normal and may have some loops in it. People with this condition tend to be constipated, since waste stays in the colon for longer and has a more 'complicated' journey before exiting the body. Since it stays in the colon for longer more water gets drawn out of it, making stools harder and more difficult to pass. I have this condition and need to consume a lot of fibre to ensure that I have regular BMs. If you are suffering from constipation and need more tips for this, I can pm you.
Thank you , sometimes I don't go for over a week but other times I have the opposite problem!
I used to be IBS-D but now I am more IBS-C prone. Over a week is a long time. You may have a gut bacterial imbalance (maybe alongside stress), that causes any diarrhea. I take Alflorex probiotic, which has been scientifically studied for IBS and this helps with my IBS symptoms including pain. If you have a gut bacterial imbalance it may help with that.
