Has anybody tried nefpam for IBS pain? My GP has just prescribed them but I'm worried about nausea/vomiting. I've tried all kinds, pregagbin, mitazapine, amitriptyline, tramadol(makes me vomit), nothing seems to take away the constant pain
Nefopam: Has anybody tried nefpam for IBS pain... - IBS Network
Nefopam
I take it for nerve pain
Does it make you feel sick or vomit?
No, I don't have any side effects
I take them for other pain. No side effects. However, whenever I feel nausea (not ibs related) I eat 3 ginger biscuits. Works every time
Do they work for you? They haven't done much for me up to now
Yea. The tablets work for the pain I experience. The ginger biscuits definitely help nausea. There's also something I'm going to check out. There's an article on Google 'What the NHS don't tell you about IBS', which states the the NHS does not test the gut for other causes. I intend phoning them but I guess it will be expensive. But as the saying goes you can't put a price on health.
thanks for that I'll definitely read it. I have said to the gp that it needs to be looked into further to rule out other things
hi, I just wondered how you were getting on with the nefopam? Did you find it helped? Did you get any side effects? Did it help your bowel? Many thanks just debating between that and duloxetine as I can’t tolerate opioids or the other meds you mentioned so I’m hoping one of these can help as I’m desperate now xx
hi there, I stopped taking nefopam months ago it did nothing for my pain. I can't tolerate opioids either, my consultant is prescribing me duloxatine too, I'm a bit worried about that too cos I've read about side effects and it doesn't always work for pain. I may try it for a while when I get it, apparently it's hard to come off and has withdrawal symptoms.
did you get any side effects with the nefopam? I’m torn between that and duloxetine as I don’t get on well with serotonin meds and duloxetine does work that way so I am skeptical however nefopam I thought would be safer less side effects etc……did it upset your guts at all I know it didn’t help with the pain but did it impact your bowels? Sorry for all the questions xx
my go said nefopam is red lighted for gps so she is unable to prescribe it and prescriptions can only be filled by a specialist……she said she didn’t know why given it’s not an opioid or benzo so she couldn’t see any obvious risks but I decided against it as there must be some reason and I don’t want to start on something I have to chase my gastro for.
She has prescribed me the duloxetine to try so we can see how we get on I’m only trying the 20mg once a day and I won’t even take the full capsule to start with.
Good luck let me know how you get on xx
no, I didn't have any side effects it just didn't help at all. It's worth a try
