Severe IBS D Constipation

I’ve struggled over the last 40 years with IBS C and now I’ve the last 5 years more of a IBS D issue. If I don’t stick with a regiment of daily Metamucil and flax I get constipated but usually resolves within a few days. However this time I just had the worst flareup. Got so constipated for almost 3 weeks..seems Metamucil and flax made it worse early on as I didn’t consume enough water.

Result was pooping tiny balls literally one at a time twice a day for 2 solid weeks….switched to miralax twice a day, a ton of water and fruit and finally after 5 more days , things started moving again. Now I’ve got very soft stool that’s flat and comes out in bunches. One extreme to the other.

Has anyone else experienced this see saw from extreme constipation and than ended up with stringy ribbon like stool?

Laxatives are a mine field....it could be that you're still slightly constipated and it's overflow causing the stringy stools? Maybe get some advice and try another form of laxative. Sorry I can't help more.

Hi, sounds like overflow diarrhea. This would mean that there is still a lot of sticky fecal material in your colon.
