Do these symptoms sound familiar?

My symptoms come on suddenly, pain in my upper abdomen builds up until it becomes excruciating with vomiting and severe diarrhea. This may last for hours then I recover over the next few days, the diarrhea lingers and the pain turns to milder cramping. I do have Crohns but had an op 10 years ago and have been disease free since then. A recent MRI showed no signs of new active Crohns and so my doctors say Crohns is unlikely as the cause but offer no other solutions. Do these symptoms sound like it could be IBS, these flares happen too often to be just a stomach bug. I would appreciate any thoughts.

Hi, replying as it was a fair post and I see you’ve yet to get a response. I do get the pain in the upper abdomen and that is accompanied by nausea. I’m rarely sick though. Your condition sounds quite severe to me and I would recommend some further discussions with your GP; I am not a doctor but I feel further investigation is required - something like an endoscopy. Good luck, I’m rootin’ for you.

Hi sorry to hear about your problems. Maybe you could ask your gp to send you for a MRCP it looks into your gallbladder. I had symptoms like you with the excruciating pain that died down little by little over 4-5days. I had a diseased gallbladder and stones. Have now had my gallbladder removed and I have not had any pain and can eat food what I couldn't eat before. A echo scan only shows gall stones it's the MRCP what shows the gallbladder. I wish you well xx

Thanks for the kind reply unfortunately I have already had my gallbladder removed, about 12 years ago, so still searching for an answer. I feel well at the moment so I'm counting my blessings. I may not have another attack for months but then again I could have one tomorrow they really do just come on without warning. I will keep chasing my gastro consultant if it all gets too much.

At least you know it's not your gallbladder. I hope they find your problem very soon. Take care and please let us all know how you get on. Regards Sue

Hi have had similar symptoms for years ultrasound confirmed multiple gallstones x

I have also had my gallbladder removed as I had gallstones The pain was excruciating and went up into my shoulders. It is like really really bad indigestion. Hubby called 111 as I kept getting it every few days went to hospital and they did a scan and found gravel like stones in my gallbladder. Had the gallbladder removed. Did not get rid of IBS though .

Maybe worth getting a stool sample. MRI may have shown no recent activity. But vomiting is never good.

I have the pot and request form ready to go just need to hand it in to the lab. I did a stool test a couple of months ago and although the procalcitonin levels were slightly raised my gastro consultant said it was nothing to be concerned about. So we will see if anything is different this time. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I am not medically trained but know someone who has ulcerative colitis attacks which sound similar.

Sounds like dumping syndrome to me. I have IBS-C and I get DS quite often. Very painful and I can get it within a moments notice especially if I’ve had too much fat or a high sugar meal.
