Mornings worst?

I find mornings really difficult - I'm awaiting confirmation of an IBS diagnosis, and the most recent flare up has taken the form of increased bowel movements (or at least, the feeling that they are on their way) in the first half of the day. It's not uncommon for me to need to sit on the toilet three or four times before lunchtime, sometimes passing very loose stool, sometimes very little harder stool, or somewhere in between. After lunchtime, this eases and I can most often go the rest of the day without feeling the need to go to the toilet.

In the meantime, I have lower back ache which rears its head when I move from a fixed position like sitting at my work desk for any longer than 10 or 15 minutes, a mild bloated sensation that occasionally veers towards nausea, and the past few mornings I've woken up with some mild groin aching. All good fun!

The worst bit is really the inconsistent need to go to the toilet - sometimes, I can leave the house in the morning after two or three toilet trips, and still end up rushing to a toilet on the train to work with a sudden need to evacuate.

Anyone else have symptoms like these, that are worse in the morning? Is it fairly common (or uncommon) with IBS?

I used to be the same, but as my day was driving 2-300 miles I have now had to stop work as I often cannot leave the house. It used to clear up by midday but over the last couple of weeks it is lasting well into the afternoon. the pain has increased a lot and apart from the pain, I get very tired and also an awful nausea felling almost constantly. I actually have a face to face appointment with Dr. this afternoon, but I fear he will not know how to treat me. I would love a strong painkiller that will not make me constipated. Tramadol stops the pain but also stops me going to the loo. Paracetamol or Panadol have stopped working. I am desperate for help but nobody knows the answer.

Sounds like me. Always horrible mornings. Even when I must be empty I still feel the need. So exhausted! Awful lower back pain heavy undercarriage and legs. and groins.. no matter how early I get up I am fit for nothing until about 11am. This forced me into early retirement but as it is not recognised I can't get early pension. I'm lucky my husband can support us.

Yes, just like me. I’m always very anxious about going out in the morning because even if I’ve been to the toilet several times, I can guarantee I’ll need to go again when I’m out and worried about finding a toilet. I find taking a couple of Imodium or similar tablets a while before I go out helps, and only a light breakfast. Good luck with it. It’s a complete pain !

First of all we don`t get any sympathy from non sufferers full stop, we live with it on our own although my wife is a great support to me. I have had IBS for many years, it used to be within a couple of hrs of getting up in the morning I had to poo( very wet and violent) then as I got older it was morning and always after lunch which was awkward when working in someone elses house. Then about 8 years ago I developed an inguinal hernia probably from straining when things got bound up and it pushed part of my bowel out of the muscle wall. It has gotten worse of late but with the pandemic they wouldn`t operate. Then I had a scan and it showed an aortic aneurism ( 5 years ago) I have been having a scan twice a year to watch the size of it and just of late it has reached the size where it could burst and I`m down to be called for the op( hopefully before Christmas) It`s like walking around with a time bomb inside you. Just of late I get pains just below my belly button when I need to poo of get rid of wind. The pain tends to go away once I have pooed but like today it is still there even after pooing. I`m wondering if the pain is caused by the aneurism getting larger and pushing against part of my bowel and preventing an easy flow. BTW my hernia op is down to be done in two years time ( that will be 10 years of living with the hernia) Apart from not being able to get a dentist appointment . I`m 76 years old now and get the horrible feeling a lot that it might be better for my wife and myself if I just don`t wake up one morning. All this and the doctors say that I look in good condition for my age which doesn`t help to get my problems sorted. That is the problem with IBS etc, people think that you are fit and well and are complaining for no reason. One bit of good news, I had my cataracts done 3 months ago and can see to drive again to the hospital so maybe I should be grateful for small mercy apart from my glasses steaming up when wearing my mask. Sorry about the long rant . BTW I purchased one of those plastic adapters that fit on top of the toilet pan giving you about 4 inches of extra height and taking some of the bend out of you lower regions when you poo and it has been a Gods send to assist moving things past the hernia. I think I might feel better if I put a notice on my jacket " I might look well but I am suffering in silence like so many other IBS sufferers" My thoughts are with you all.

yes I have almost identical problems.I dread mornings and like you spend a lot of it on the throne.

But if I need to go somewhere in a morning just try Imodium one hour before departure that works

Yes mornings are bad for me also I can go 2 or 3 times in the morning and then after every meal I am trying to get control but it's difficult at the moment I had a scan last Sunday but haven't been informed of the results yet I am so uncomfortable this is the worst I have ever been but reading everyone's experience reminds me I am not alone so keep strong to all out there.

Oh yes, this is exactly what I experience, most mornings I need to go 2 or 3 times before lunch etc and lower back pain, I have a diagnosis of IBS and had it for years, no easy answers, try to watch what I eat, I take Imodium when I need it and Buscopan…

The minute I open my eyes 7 am I start going and go at least 4 times before I eat breakfast. I must go some days at least 10 times. Sometimes I feel like going but nothing comes out and my rectum feels like a pressure chamber. The funny thing is that none of my stools are diarrhea. I have been to 3 GI docs have had a ton of tests and besides having diverticular disease everything is normal. I have had a few episodes of diverticulitis so they think it is post infectious IBS, however my question is what kind of IBS is it? I don't have diarrhea or iBS-D, and I poop enough to not have IBS-C although sometimes I feel like not enough is out. Doc thinks it's my anxiety that's causing it, I think that's rubbish. Have triied FODMAP diet, herbals, Bentyl, Levsin, and lately he put me on Mesalamine which is for people with IBD. So I understand that this is the new way of life for most of us, and we have no choice but to adapt.

I have suffered with constipation and terrible wind for years now and have tried so many different remedies with little effect. It has impacted greatly on my life as I can be back and forward about 4 times a day to the toilet only passing small hard stools. Two weeks ago I read that coffee stimulates the bowel. ( this information was from a doctor) so I swapped my green tea in the morning for a coffee with

milk and the result has been amazing.

Most mornings about an hour after the coffee I go to the toilet and have a normal bowel movement. I always felt I had developed a sluggish bowel where it didn't empty properly with the result I had frequent daily toilet trips.

Not any more.

All I can say is this worked for me so is maybe worth a try by anyone else who suffered like me.
