House like a Pharmacy

After having another crappy night and day in pain I had a mild panic today when I thought I'd ran out of Rennie's, non left in the 'bedside pharmacy' so ran to the large shelf I now have in the kitchen. On opening the cupboard I was greeted with a large box of pain killers falling on my head, whilst bending over to pick it up (not easy when you've pelvic pain) I noted how this box would have taken up half of my old 'medicine tin'.

I remember the old biscuit tin (left over from Xmas and saved for something more useful) it used to sit in the under stairs cupboard hardly seeing the light of day, it contained a box of plasters, lemsips, small pack of pain killers, Rennies, sticky bottle of cough medicine and a packet of lockets. You had to fight your way through coats and shoes to find it and then most likely what you wanted would be out of date and the plasters would no longer be sticky. Those were the pain free carefree days....

I looked at my new large shelf in the kitchen, stuffed with large bottles of gaviscon, every different type of pain killer, over the counter stuff and prescription drugs old and new. I even found 8 different types of herbal tea bags not to mention other herbal remedies. Every time I go into the freezer I have to fight my way past the cold packs.

As for the living room, I have a drawer of assorted hot packs ready to grab and microwave at a moments notice. A drawer for all my hosptial letters. I have an 'electrical corner' trying to be discreet down one side of the sofa, this consists of a heated foot massager, heated neck massager, a large suitcase thing containing about 10 different attachments for a hand held battery operated massager, a Reevite Medic thing with Tens and a wearable electric blanket thing (without arms). I sat in that now, boiling but it's helping my back.

My asthma flared up too last week after many years, my inhalers were out of date so I have new inhalers, spacer device and peak flow thingy sat on the spare sofa as I literally have run out of space. I ask myself how the hell has it come to this....!

How I miss my old small medicine tin, in the cupboard under the stairs x

Very cute. At least you have a sense of humor. Good, though, that you do everything you can to take care of yourself and alleviate the pain. xx

Hi I must confess I chuckled all the way thru this. It’s brilliant!

It’s me too!

Used to have Elastoplast and nothing else now I have a medicine cupboard groaning with stuff . My kids and grandkids treat me like the pharmacy at Asda!

Thank you so much for starting my day off with a laugh.

Take care and stay safe.

Thanks Purpletara, I'm glad it brought a smile to your day. I know when I'm at the supermarket I spend more and more time in the medicine aisle, usually saying, got that, got that, tried that, ooh now should I give that one a go..! x

Hi 3443Ness, well I didn't want to mention the 'hand' bag too! Mine is now a large shoulder bag. I have a check list everytime I go out to make sure I have everything. If I give someone my bag to hold I usually get 'Jesus, you got a brick in there'! If someone ever stole my bag they would be very disappointed, unless they had IBS of course 😂

I sometimes think a small suit case would be better to take out would be better as I could pull it along 😂. I've also gone from a small bag to a larger bag and it's full of medicine and other stuff I need for my ibs

I had a good laugh at this, so well-written! But I have every sympathy as I know how pain can take control of one's life. I wish you all the best in the struggle - give us some tips if you find any!
