Hi juniepoonie. I use to get pain under right rib that went across to the back and when it reached the back the pain was excruciating for about 5 days. My GP referred me for a ultra scan and that showed I had a small umbilical hernia and small gallstones. My GP then referred me on a 2 week referral to a gastroenterologist who arranged a MRCP. This takes images of gallbladder the ducts the pancreas and liver. This showed I had a diseased gall bladder with a sludge cyst and gallstones. Straight away I was put on list for gallbladder removal. I was lucky and was sent to a private hospital and had the gallbladder removed and at the same time they repaired my hernia all by keyhole. This will be 4 weeks ago this coming Friday. I feel so much healthier, I have had no pain and my acid reflux seems to have gone, although I sometimes take a spoonful of gaviscon advance after my dinner in the evening just in case. I find I can eat anything now what I couldnt eat before. I hope this helps you, if you need to know any more please let me know. Wish you better x

Thankyou for your reply lm so glad your feeling better! I have Mrcp yearly as have cyst in my pancreas an polyp in my gallbladder! Last one in January! Has it affected your bowel movement by having gb removed

Nothingimpossible in reply tojuniepoonie

I feel very lucky as my bowel movement is fine and normal. After reading about people having diarrhoea I was worried before the op but the consultant told me it was 1 in every so many who have bowel problems (can't remember exactly how many people). I still make sure I eat my veg and fruit. I still only grill or roast food unless it's my friend eggs which I love. I only use olive oil and still eat sourdough bread, but I have eaten white rolls and bread in moderation. 🤞it stays this way. Are you due to have your gallbladder removed? and what will they do about the cyst on the pancreas? xx

Monitor cyst in pancreas an polyp in gallbladder it was said if it grows in gb l can have removed but p was worried how that would affect my bowels🤦‍♀️! D see o pleased your doing well

Nothingimpossible in reply tojuniepoonie

Thanks Juniepoonie as I said. This is the best I have felt since removal of gb. I do hope they can sort you out and everything goes ok for you. I sometimes wonder if some who had theres removed was eating lots of fatty foods and that's why they have bowel problem. Let me know your outcome please and good luck x

Nothingimpossible profile image
Nothingimpossible in reply to3443Ness

Hi I did have terrific pain right hand side stomach which went to the back which was unbearable for about 5 days that was caused by gallstone getting stuck in ducts. You need a MRCP which shows only the pancreas all bladder ducts and liver. A normal ultra scan does not show all this. My gallbladder has now been removed 4 weeks ago. All the best

Hello, I have just read your post. I have been having upper stomach/ abdomen pain for 5 months now. I also have mid back pain at the same time. I have IBS d which I try to control with imodium ( 20 years). Since the start of this pain in my abdomen I have had blood tests and various poo tests all of which came back clear as did an upper abdominal ultra sound. I have now got an appointment for a gastroscopy and I am so terrified of anything going down my throat I don't think I can go for it. My GP informed the consultant that I would not be able to tolerate it at the time of referal but that appears to have been ignored. I don't know what to do. I can't even speak to my GP for 2 weeks. Have you had a Gastroscopy?

3443Ness profile image
3443Ness in reply toMrsG5

Hi yes I have had one years ago the only thing I would suggest is be sedated do not go for the spray that was my mistake and I would never have it with that again but I no people who have been sedated and said it was ok.i have had all the blood test and poo samples aswell but all normal. But I would say go and have it done as that's the only way to make sure everything else is ok I know it's frightening but they r really good with u if u explain how nervous you r hope everything goes ok and let us know how you get on take care

3443Ness in reply toMrsG5

I hope they r but what ever you decide make sure it's right for you. I now I was very frightened but the nurses was very good and was talking to me through procedure if u do go through with it make sure u get sedated as that is the only way I would have another one done. Will be thinking of you ever way let us know how u get on take care

juniepoonie profile image
juniepoonie in reply toMrsG5

I would call the number on your letter or consultants secretary an explain your concerns! I 100% couldn't do it! I absolutely have such a fear! My son did it without sedation he said it's doable!l would have to be knocked out! Let us know how you get on

MrsG5 profile image
MrsG5 in reply tojuniepoonie

I have already called the consultant's secretary. I asked her to ask if I could have the Barium swallow instead. She told him my fears but he said no!!

Gall bladder infection or possibly Bile Acid Malabsorption (BAM). Ask your GP or GI team for a scan to check.

I have suffered with pain in my right side on and off since I was a teenager. I have had ultrasound and bloods but all came back ok. The pain comes on several times a day with movement and after eating but if I sit or lie down it will ease off. It can be active for years but will suddenly disappear and I'll get a period of no pain at all!! I believe stress triggers it and based on people's posts here, I believe it is my hepatic flexure. If you do get a diagnosis please post on here as I would be really interested to know. I saw a gastroenterologist and they were useless....told me it was a pain I had to live with!!!!

Joe3 profile image

Just a thought, but you may wish to consider whether you have hepatic flexure syndrome. I have suffered this for over 11 years. It is a form of IBS that focusses on a flexure (bend) in the large intestine, in the area of the liver, just under the inferior edge of the rib cage, on the right hand side. When my gastroenterologist gave me this diagnosis, he pointed me to academic papers, published after the "Rome 4 symposium on IBS". This was the 4th quadrennial gathering of consultant gastroenterologists who write up their research reports. They are the world's leading gastroenterologists and they meet every 4 years in Rome. If your GP is as good as mine he/she will print out a copy of the "Hepatic Flexure paper" for you. I have searched long and hard for a cure. No joy, sadly. I wish you well.
