Hi HunteI am sorry you’re going through this awful time. I’ve had something very similar when I had womb cancer 7 yrs ago. Leading up to cancer had IBS symptoms in fact initially this is what doctor thought I had. Then having been diagnosed with cancer had chemotherapy.and radiotherapy. Since then I have had permanent IBS. Never sure when I eat something if it’s going to react which has limited my lifestyle and confidence. I have remained mainly on FODMAP which I know is not recommended but try to introduce small amounts of food I shouldn’t eat. I also take Imodium daily resting my body from it now and again . My GP told me it’s ok as no long term side effects from loperamide. This is only way I lead any sort of normal life. Recently I started taking alflorex. Side effects to begin with but sticking with them it has helped me considerable. It hasn’t cured me but find I can eat more foods that I’ve been banned from. I hope this has been helpful. I haven’t found consultants helpful at all. If I told them this has left me with problems I feel they just can’t really do anything about it.
I can certainly back up what flanimals123 is saying about Alflorex probiotic. It has changed my life - it has reduced my pain considerably and made me more tolerant to foods.
Have you cut out all dairy? I've had IBS for 40 years and it all began with undiagnosed lactose I tolerance. It took me 7 years to discover I was. Much better after cutting it out but in the last 16 years it has been a problem as I now have other intolerances, yeast , duck, buck wheat, sunflower oils and dextrose. Intolerances are really difficult to discover especially if you have more than one. My advice...for 2 weeks cut out all fibre...no fruit, tomatoes, porridge, dairy or bread (yeast products) and only have well cooked carrots as a veg. No pasta and only basmati rice. Have Farleys rusks as a breskfast biscuit.
