Calprotectin Test
I haven't but my GP did say that calprotectin rules out any other inflammatory bowel disease except from IBS so if you have calprotectin in your poo then you probably have IBD, not IBS.
Hi. I have a calprotectin of 1200, however the colonoscopy did not show any inflammation. I was told that probably is an IBS and have to try a gluten and lactose free diet and if this does not work then probably try a FODMAP. It is somehow confusing because I was told raised calprotectin will be caused by inflammation and not IBS.
Thanks for your reply. Dr reassure me I have IBS because my only symptom is constipation but now I’m not sure. My Calprotectin came out to 140 so now I’m scheduled for a Colonoscopy to confirm diagnosis. What are your symptoms if you don’t mind me asking?
Bloating, diarheea, sometimes constipation, severe abdominal cramps (nearly fainthed from the cramps) and had some bleeding. Colonoscopy absolutely normal.
Wow a Calprotectin that high and everything came out normal. Did you manage to get your symptoms under control?
Not yet. The specialist it could be an IBS following a GI infection and possible gluten and lactose intolerant. I need to repeat bloods and calprotectin. they took 4 biopsyes so I am still waiting for results but specialist said he thinks this should be all normal as no ulcers were find inside my intestines. I forgot to mention I am also iron deficient due to whatever caused this reaction in my body.
Calprotectin in feces 34 mg/kg (normal < 50 mg/kg) and diagnosed with IBS in 2019. Overflow diarrhea, easily constipated and hb quite low (anemia due to inflammation?). Use cascara sagrada to keep feces moving. Also a lot of gas in my intestines, bloating, nausea, chronic fatigue and a lot of other symptoms. Now waiting for an approval from my assurance company so I can start with rifaximin to treat bacterial dysbiose. But also waiting for result of feces test for h.Pylori. If positive I may need other antibiotics instead to eradicate h. pylori first.
