Ibs and muzzy headed feeling

Does anybody feel muzzy headed with ibs - it's not exactly dizziness but a lot of the time I don't feel clear headed. I'm really struggling with my ibs at the moment and don't get any relapses so am giving probiotics another go and watching my diet.

Yes, I feel like that too. I used to be IBS(Diarrhoea) but am more IBS(Mixed) now. When my bowel feels bunged up so does my nose and then I get a fuzzy head! If it's really bad, I can't think straight.

Yes, i get this feeling too Maureen. I think it is trapped gas that goes up into my throat, nose, comes out of my eyes and in my head. And possibly due to anxiety, get stiffness in stomach as though it could break into pieces. GP referred me for 2nd opinion and the date has come through for 10th May, 3 months away, ridiculous. I am in an awful state, it feels like a proper nightmare!

Yes, I think you are right. Stomach acid making it's way up into your head (in the form of a gas) going up your nose, into your eyes and also now my ears!

I call it brain fog and yes, I have it since ... it don't remember anymore. Can't concentrate on most of the things I do. I liked to read books but lost interest.

Yes i get the brain fog. Some days i dont even want to turn my head to look when crossing the road! Also have timitus from working in a noisy factory when i was young and for decades they blamed that. So taken off the meds and wow cold turkey! Just as dizzy with or without meds. They gave me exercises todo to make me dizzy!? So my brain would get used to it. Im dizzy all the time i dont need exercises for that. Another Doc said the equlubrian of my brain is out of sink and nothing will work! I just live with it and make the most of good days. If my IBS alows.

Hi

Yes I can get very bad 'brain fog' where I can't concentrate and sometimes a little woozy.

It's a new symptom for me over the last year.

It was most improved last summer when I was also taking antihistamine for hay fever, but I don't really know if that was what helped.

Generally, I deal with it by thinking about pacing my energy.

You can google pacing tips for chronically ill people for advice.

I plan my day to alternate between 'thinking' tasks and things like cleaning/tidying or resting with a jigsaw. I'll time my 'thinking' tasks depending on the extent of the brain fog that day - it might be 10min to 30min blocks.

Note - I try not to use TV for rest breaks as it's actually stimulating to my brain rather than restful. Radio or music is good too though.

Would be great to know how others manage or avoid it!

Well my dr seems to think I'm crazy when I tell him this!! I'm sorry to see others suffering the same symptoms but it is relieving to know I'm not crazy or alone!

Thank you, it is reassuring to know that I am not alone - I'm going to have to go back to the docs but what can they do? I guess we just carry on.

They could test to eliminate anything obvious, like gluten or lactose intolerance (and fructose intolerance is quite common). On the subject of brain fog, I had that yesterday with my IBS; I suspect it may be due to the fact that IBS is quite exhausting and the body is diverting a lot of energy to the bowel (probably more than is actually necessary or desirable). So I have concluded that sort of feeling is to be expected, and nothing to worry about (which will only make it worse!).

Hi exacy the same here.

Doctor totally unhelpfull.

My head goes numb, pretty off putting really, and sometimes terrible headaches.

Usually after exam(when I can get an appointment) metronidazole usually for 7 days.

Just before the I try and use alka seltzer xs, sometimes works, failing that make an appointment with doctor in 10 days, due to current situation.

It has to be remembered, that IBS is quite dibilitating. A gastroenterology specialist says on a bad day of IBS symptoms, the gut spasms is equivalent to doing 20 or 30 press ups a day. This why we suffer tiredness and fuzzy zombie states. Its a pain, but trying light diets and less stress and listening to some favourite light smooth music in the evening can work wonders👍

Yes, well known condition with ibs. So frustrating. Sometimes I believe it's caused by trapped gas which comes up into the mouth, nose, out of my eyes and in my head. I have so many different symptoms with this rotten condition which has made me an invalid and unable to enjoy lufe. I have tried so many different methods to rid myself of this over the past 3 years, at the moment I'm on brain retraining and will be trying Bioresonance next week with my nutritionist. Good luck with your experience, I hope you find some relief.

Just want to tell what happened to me.

Had IBS both c and d most of my adult life. A long time as in 60s. Tried all sorts of things, but just lived with it.

Fodmap helped a bit, found it really difficult avoiding onion family, it's very restrictive.

Then went gluten free 6 months ago and digestive issues are nearly normal now. Eat a healthy diet and anything apart from gluten which I am really careful about.

Went GF because of another health condition, never thought I would be able to eat leek and potato soup. Do a lot of homemade meals and these always make me feel better than shop bought.

Point is I never suspected gluten even though had days when went wheat free. This is not long enough though so would recommend to anyone who has brain fog and IBS to try gluten free. You have nothing to lose it may take a while, 2 to 3 months or longer until you know if this helps you.

The blood test carried out for gluten sensitivity is not always reliable so go by listening to your own body. The brain fog will lift quite quickly if this applies to you.

It is worth trying and beats living with this!!!

Thank you Penelope - like you I have been battling this for most of my life and have just started a wheat free diet. Fingers crossed, you get quite desperate.

You should realise that IBS is the symptom but cause is either hydrogen (runny tummy) or methane (constipation) bacteria overgrowth in small intestine.Get right treatment.

in reply toVernon53

Hi Vernon sibo is not really recognised by doctors here they just say it’s ibs , so people who actually have true sibo are not getting the right treatment and left to suffer x
