Thanks for reply, I have mucus and bleeding and referred for two week colonoscopy, had a lot trips to the loo today and ended pooing just mucus and blood, very sore so not looking forward to the prep part of the colonoscopy when I get the appointment.

I keep baby cream by the loo. It helps.

Thanks - things by my loo are piling up! Seeing consultant week today, and he makes a decision as to whether I need a colonoscopy. I suppose it makes sense. x

It sounds like you are sore already and then to have to go through that prep work will just increase that. I have had a Colonoscopy before and it did leave me rather sore. I did not know about barrier cream then and I think that is a great idea. I have one coming up and will be sure to use it. Wishing you all the best with that.

Thanks for your reply. Felt poorly this morning, managed to get private appointment this morning with the same consultant I am seeing next week on the NHS. Felt stomach, and was very surprised when he gave me a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy. Had so much mucus he did it twice, he said when he first read my notes he was thinking cancer, but now he has seen my rectum thinks it may be colitis. Has referred me for a two week CT scan, but a colonoscopy even on an urgent referral on the NHS can be up to six weeks. Decided to have a private one, don't feel I can wait as feel so rough at the moment. Very sore so not looking forward to the prep!

Hi, hope you are having a better day today. There's nothing I can say to help you. I have diverticular disease and IBS. Have had blood in poo but not mucus. Know what you mean about the colonoscopy prep! Can only advise you to use a barrier cream every day. Take care and keep posting so we know how you get on.

Hello Purpletara, hospital rang this morning, apparently a colonoscopy is not the first port of call on a two week referral, you see a consultant first, and then, if he thinks one is needed, you get one. Don't know whether to be relieved or not, I suppose seeing the consultant first makes sense, Booked for a week today. Thank you for your support. There are great people on here.

Pleased you are going to see consultant first. Because of Covid they are not doing procedures lightly but if he thinks you need one it will go ahead quite quickly. You need this problem sorted to put your mind at rest (been there! ) . Take care and keep posting x

Sorry you aren’t feeling well but pleased you have managed to see a consultant. I can understand how you are not looking forward to the prep for a colonoscopy. I’ve had it quite a few times and it’s not pleasant. Just drinking the stuff is awful. I’ve seen me standing with it in my hand not wanting to drink it! And then the loo runs! But, it’s a necessary evil! The indignities we have to put up with! Hope the colonoscopy is soon so that you can get it over with, get what treatment you need and put your mind at rest. Take care x

Youll be ok. I had colonoscopy. The prep clears you out. It ends up coming out like clear water. Then go for the colonoscopy. Just use some cream to ease the area. I had some anaesthetic when i had mine. But was fine.

Hi GreatgranThis was me 100% last week☹

Exactly the same

Very.....sore & mucousy inside already + 2 large thrombosed haemorrhoids which were the...worst PAIN ON THE PLANET - was in A & E on a drip for pain!!

So....trying to help

I started my PREP alot earlier & spread it out & it made a huge difference & i wasnt very sore. I topped the PREP with lemonade for taste & also drank sweetened tea at the same time. Yes i was hungry & it isnt pleasant but i got through - relieved is now over. The Colonoscopy itself they dont actually bother me. They also numbed the entrance area hehe - make sure you ask for that + some sedation, its ur body remember

Vaseline is my saviour

Good Luck x

My symptoms sound the same as yours and was referred for colonoscopy under 2 week wait. Had this 10 days ago after waiting 8 weeks due to covid pressure. I used Sudocreme all the time before and during the prep to protect and soothe. They found Diverticulosis, polyps, and Ulcerative Colitis. I still have to wait for Gastroenterologist appointment for medication to help.. Good luck and hope you get a quicker appointment. Let us know how you get on. I think the worry about the prep is worse than the actual thing,at least it was for me.

Thank you - got an appointment with the consultant week today, I have to see a consultant first and he makes the decision whether he wants me to have a colonoscopy, I suppose it makes sense. In my area for two week wait colonoscopy you see a consultant first probably due to Covid. I would prefer a colonoscopy first!

Hope the results are good news. You just feel you need someone to help you feel better. It's a really miserable disease made even worse by the awful weather and lockdown. I'm still waiting for medication after my colonoscopy. I had booked a private colonoscopy originally but the NHS appointment came thru a week before so decided to save myself £2500 and go with NHS. I wish I'd stayed private now as I might have had some relief by now. Let me know how you get on.
