Agonising cramp

Hi everyone

I’ve had ibs for 15+ years and can’t remember exactly when this problem started.

About a week before my period is due to start I get serve cramp mainly on the lower left side of my abdomen but will sometimes spread all the way across.

Anything seems to trigger it, like just going to the toilet (1or2), picking something heavy up or having pressure put on my stomach or it will just start out of no where.

The pain can be so bad at times I have to stop what I’m doing and lay down in a tucked up position. Also nearly passing out or being sick. As soon as my period is about the start it stops just like that!

The pain can last anywhere from couple minutes to an hour.

I’m not on any contraception or medication.

Just wondered if anyone else suffers with something similar.

Thanks for reading 😊

Could it perhaps be something to do with your uterus or the lining of your womb? Certainly hormone changes can really aggravate IBS symptoms, mine has been much worse since I entered perimenaousal stage. Maybe worth getting advice from Dr? 💛

I have wondered whether it’s something todo with the reproductive organs, I have contacted doctors in the past over it and them saying it’s probably todo with my ibs but I just can’t understand why it’s only the weeks leading up to my period, I don’t get it any other time. Will be giving them another call, just wondered whether anyone else suffered the same problem.

I have always experienced a change in my bowel habits prior to my period, long before being diagnosed with IBS. Changes in hormones can change have your digestive system works....same cells as in our brain lines our intestines ! My anxious mind has helped create an overly sensitive bowel 😟

Yeah I get that. 1 minute ago

I've had ibs for over 20 years and had the longest spell ( over a year) without symptoms. I thought it had gone for good until I had noodles in my Chinese food. I have been logging a food diary and the the main culprit are pasta and noodles Weetabix and food with a lot of cooked tomato in like Bolognese sauces . Just from them noodles I've got heartburn gas constipation but the worse part is pain in left side of abdomen and feeling unwell. It's like the bowel is cramped tight and not letting anything through making it infected or something. I get a fever on night at its worse.

I’ve kept a food diary for couple years, but these cramps don’t seem to be food or drink related.
