I've suffered from ibs d for quite a few years and diverticular disease for the last ten years. I have frequent episodes of lower left abdominal pain but always during the day. For the last week or so I have been woken up by the same pain between 4 and 4.30 in the morning and it's affecting my sleep - it doesn't last long but I can't get back to sleep.
I have had a sigmoidoscopy about 2 months ago for rectal bleeding which showed severe diverticular disease.
Does anyone else get this pain in the bowel during the night and how do you cope with it?
Any replies or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I too suffer with diverticular disease, but IBS c. I'm often woken with pain during the night and can't get back to sleep. I take stool softeners which seem to help(not always) With you having IBS d, try taking an antispasmodic ie Alverine citrate which your doctor can prescribe. Worth a try
Hi. I take mebeverine which helps during the day but not at night. Never heard of alverine citrate. Maybe it's only used for IBS c. Have tried buscopan as well. Thank you for replying. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem!
