Weight loss

I have been suffering from acidity since beginning of June and was put on omeprazole 20mg daily for 3 months. I have now reduced this to 10mg daily as symptoms have improved although I do get flare ups once every 10 days or so.

I have noted that I have lost around 8kg in 4 months. I think this is most probably due to me not able to eat as much and having to cut down completely on fast food etc due to the stomach condition.

Has anyone with similar condition experienced similar weight loss?

Fast food is the very worst thing you can eat remove it entirely from your diet be kind to your body. If you really want to help yourself.

Hi AMerchant, I found your post in my box but I don't think I can help much. I took Omeprazole for a while but it didn't suit me. I had all kinds of problems, IBS etc. with upset stomachs for months and months and nobody could seem to find out why. After tests and scans it was put down to IBS. I lost a lot of weight too as, like you I couldn't eat much and on a very limited diet. I just ate very plain food, never fast food. If you have a stomach problem I would certainly not eat fast food as it's full of fat and other horrible additives which may aggravate your stomach. Give your tummy a rest.

Thanks. Like I said I have cut out all fast food for months. I can't even have anything difficult to digest like red meat. So like you I have to have to simple food.

I find that when I am hungry the stomach gets very tight and hurts but sometimes this happens also after eating.

Did you have acidity issues ?

How much weight did you lose

My whole system was in a mess with acid reflux and stomach pain, diarrhoea etc. I became so weak. I think my symptoms were probably a little different to yours but I think I lost about a stone and a half in weight. I know my trousers just fell off me. My diet consisted of mashed potatoes, eggs, white bread, toast, honey, plain cooked salmon, plain cooked chicken and chicken soup. The most boring diet but I didn't feel well enough to worry just as long as I had something to eat. In the end I decided to go completely gluten free and things did gradually get better thank goodness. My diet has improved to that I can now eat almost anything again. I do hope you are able to get to the bottom of what is causing your problems. It really is horrible to feel so awful, you have all my sympathy.

Thanks. I hope so too. I am having endoscopy in late October. Hopefully that will show something
