Well after the night from hell I am seriously considering ending my Alflorex trial. The tummy cramps and diarrhoea have been awful, I never get up in the night to go, but I did last night and all this morning. I did feel better last week, but I'm now on week 3 and things are going down hill rapidly. I have emailed the care line for advice, they are brilliant and so helpful. I don't want to give in but I've spent all morning in pain and tears . Can anyone relate and please tell me it gets better and it's worth carrying on. I used to take acidophilus and entersol gel, but have stopped taking them for the trial. Thanks Claire xx

Yes can relate. Especially found it upsetting as had such high hopes for an improvement by three weeks. It took longer. Other things can still trigger flares too so the Alflorex hasn’t stopped that. Glad I continued, think it does take time, but not everyone finds it helpful it seems, so do hope you feel better soon.
I’m on week 2 of Alflorex and I’ve noticed bloating has eased. I’m still waiting patiently for it to help with bowel movements, as I suffer with IBS-C. Has anybody else found it helps?
I am the opposite and suffer from IBS D and it made me bloat, something I did not really suffer from. I will keep my fingers crossed for you, and hope it works. It's got some marvelous reviews. Xx
I had 4 weeks of feeling v v rough and all of a sudden it resolved and now things are fine- I nearly gave up so many times tho. They say on their advice page it can take 4-6 weeks. I used meditation to help cope.
Thank you for your reply. I have never felt so ill, it's just difficult to know what to do. I am comparing it to the Acidophilus I used to take, which did give me a few days of unpleasant symptoms but nothing like this. Still I will carry on, thank heavens I am working from home, as I dare not venture into the office! Xx
I was very lucky and got no side effects. Possibly the response may be down to Alflorex doing its job and fighting off some nasties in your gut. The careline would know more. In some people it can take time for things to settle - 4-6 weeks or sometimes longer. Might be best to discuss with the care line the outer most time it should take to settle and keep going until then. To give you hope, Alflorex has changed my life and I am now eating foods I haven't managed to eat in years. Everyone's gut makeup is different and what helps one person may not help another. The strain in Alflorex is a very strong strain given by the mother to babies at birth and should be particularly good at fighting off bad bugs. Fingers crossed this is what you are going through now and you come out the other end. Good luck.
I’m on week three and considered giving up this morning. I’ve had terrible heartburn bloating gas in general much worse daily then I’ve ever been. It is also effecting my nights sleep. I’ve just read these posts and have decided to continue but don’t want to mess up my system. I’m going to give it 4 weeks and hope it settles down. I’m taking charcoal tablets to counteract the gas 😩
I’ve also considered tipping powder from capsule and eating with yoghurt or food. Wonder sometimes if plastic capsules might irritate. I will let you know outcome.
I was told I could not take anything else with them apart from the Mebeverine, as I was using Entersol Gel too. It effects my sleep too and that has never happened before. The careline have been brilliant and have told me to carry on, but if I still feel dreadful I don't know if I can. I hope you feel better soon xx
