Hi Everyone. I hope you're well.
I am really struggling with what seems to be my stomach. I've had this issue since I was a young teen. It's really starting to effect my mental health now, as I am feeling sick every single day. Luckily, I have been working from home from a while, so can lie down when I need too but since I have lost my business due to Covid, I am having to look at new jobs.
I have been in talks with the doctors for the past few months and this is what they have done so far.
- Increased my lansoprazole to taking one 30mg in the morning and one 30mg at night.
- Then took me completely off lansoprazole as I was starting to think that we are treating the wrong thing as it doesn't really help reduce my symptoms.
- They are considering taking me off Citalopram (antidepressant). Whether they switch it to something else or come up with a plan to take me off it gradually, I really don't know.
I am getting to a wits end with all of these changes not having an effect. It's made worse but talking to a different doctor each time and therefore being given different advice.
Just a quick run of my symptoms:
- It's hard to explain but it feels like gas escaping from my stomach without me burping. I know that doesn't make sense but that's the best way I can describe it.
- When I was working full time in Crawley (about an hours drive from where I live) It would get so bad that I would have to keep pulling over to be sick out of my car. (Gross. Sorry)
- The only way that it feels slightly better is lying on my back in bed. That angle seems to help but whenever I flip over onto either side, I feel worse. (When I said this to a doctor, he was quite surprised because with indigestion lying on your back often makes it worse)
- What seems to make it worse, is sitting in an upright position for more than an hour a.k.a sitting at a desk, which i really need to be doing to work.
- The doctor I spoke to last did mention that if my symptoms aren't any worse coming off of lansoprazole then we should be looking at it deeper as it may be IBS. I am slightly confused about this as I would think that I would be having bowl issues alongside if that were the case. I don't really know anything about IBS, so It would be helpful to know if nausea can be a symptom.
- Another helpful note to add is. I have stopped eating anything that could be causing a reaction and stopped drinking coffee. That was one of the first things that I did when trying to feel better. I have recently put on alot of weight but my eating habits haven't really changed. I can pin point to weigh gain starting when I had an implant put in. I had it taken out a couple of months later but my weight still hasn't changed. I used to be barely 9 stone and now I am 11st 7lbs. I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I think it's worth mentioning.
- The other thing to mention is that I did have a endoscopy late last year and they noticed a hiatus hernia. I would told that this wouldn't cause major symptoms but I'm wondering if this is having an effect.
I would like to know if anyone else has similar symptoms to me. Does anyone have nausea as a symptom of IBS. Any advice on what I should be doing to help speed up the process with the doctor. Just anything really.
I am just struggling overall with this. I has effected my work and social life and I just want to get through a day and not have to worry if I will feel sick or not.
