I thought about taking L-glutamine some time ago and actually purchased some but in the end decided not to take it after some research. It's a protein component that your body would normally extract from food sources and isn't used to handling it in its pure form. Here is some info I found on it:

Generally speaking, taking L-glutamine is safe. Make sure to stick to the recommended doses, however. Taking too much is potentially bad for your health.....Some studies show that certain types of cancer cells increase rapidly in response to L-glutamine.
Tumor cells are known to feed off L-glutamine as a preferred fuel source. For this reason, it may be advised for those with cancer, or with high risk of cancer, to avoid supplements. More research is needed to know how L-glutamine and particular cancers interact.
This article says that collagen is better than l-glutamine since it is a more natural food source:

glutamine is a precursor to glutamate or glutamic acid. When this conversion occurs, the properties and effects of glutamate can be attributed to glutamine.
Glutamate is one of two excitatory neurotransmitters in the brain that can cause anxiety. Excesses in brain tissue (remember the gut-brain correlation)
can also cause cell damage. So while glutamine in excess seems benign, once it converts to glutamate, that status is called into question..............................................................
glutathione produces bacterial growth, proving it can become food for invasive pathogens.
Another study (2) shows the virulence of cancer cells when exposed to glutamine. A third study (3) shows increased mortality among patients given glutamine. Glutathione has also been linked to the thinning of gut lining when used long term.
I used to take Arthred which is a pre-digsted form of collagen. I didn't get any side effects from it, but I can't really say that it benefited me greatly and it was very expensive.
Hello, yes it is a common amino acid, but it is claimed to be helpful to feed the lining cells of your small intestine, and hence improve the structure and surface area of these villi and hence improve nutrient absorption and reducing the richness of food which then passes to your colon. Yes, it is generally safe.
Thank you guys for your reply, greatly appreciated
