Hi

Once maybe twice a month I have literally a few minutes to empty my bowels, it comes very suddenly without warning.

This stops me going on trips, walking etc, as I feel I need to stay close to a toilet.

Any help/advice would be appreciated

Do you have a regular eating/ drinking/ exercise pattern. Please read my post in the hopes that it might help. I know i'm discussing C and D in it, but the food groups part might be helpful to you in trying to get yourself in a routine. the once a month baffles me, but if this happens more often, just not so severely, it sounds like a routine diet issue that you may be able to help.

Hi. I have this too, and around the same frequency as you too. I follow a very strict diet, basically eating the same thing every day but this still happens a couple of times a month.

It does cause you lots of worry about going out as you never know when it will strike. But there are times that I feel confident and ok to go out so I do, but not very far or for long.

Unfortunately I don't have any advice. Also, everyone is different too.

Yes I have confidence times too, strange isn’t it

It is because me too. I used to belong to a walking group but would never know when I had to run home. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t quite made it on a couple of occasions. My husband says my bowels rule our lives! 😥

Hi Hylda

I’m exactly the same as you it starts to rule your life doesn’t it? I miss my walking group had to stop going for the same reasons. My hubby says the same thing to me. They say they understand but I don’t think they do really it’s nice to know we are not alone in this x

You are so right. Began to think it was only me who has this problem. Want to go and sit in my brother in law’s garden but what if I need the loo!

Hi

Have any of you been to the doctors with it? I’m just interested in what they said about it, any tips etc

I’m building up the confidence to go 😢

I have had to go outdoors also. If you’re husband had the same I’m sure he’d understand more

In my case, it seems to be caused by not evacuating for an entire week, then coming out all at once! I've tried reducing FODMAPs, lactose, gluten, fructose and the usual subjects but, like ANB80 , I rarely change my diet and it don't understand why I can go days without a problem, then all happening at once. I think it might be due to poor transit resulting in food decomposing in the intestinal tract and might be relieved by taking soluble fibre to increase transit in between periods of diarrhoea. At the moment, though, I am trying Alflorex, as advised by the IBS network, in case there is a build up of bad bacteria in the small intestine (SIBO); early days yet, but I'll save your post and provide an update.

Please do. Is that prescribed?

Sorry to have been so long getting back to you. Alflorex is recommended by the IBS Network, and there should be a link to the manufacturers; it is also available on Amazon. I tried it for a couple of months, but didn’t notice much difference, then had to take a heavy course of antibiotics, which mucked up the system completely! So I’m now back to square one and trying another couple of months of Alflorex, hopefully without interruption this time. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I suffer from constipation and then suddenly I have to go! Have tried Senna, Dulcolax, Dulcoease, Dulcosoft, Movicol as suggested by the doctor, anything to try and regulate. Would like a quick walk round the block now,but no chance!
