Ive had this forever. Recently its been getting worse. Been doing the FODMAT diet for a week. Still getting unbearable cramps with urgency followed by loose stool in the am several times. Ive been having gluten free oatmeal for breakfast and healthy dinners. I dont think its the food Im eating. I dont know the cause and no medications have helped as of yet. Any ideas what could be causing this and how to make it stop?? My mornings are unbearable😢
If I could get this under control Id be much happier and pain free

Hi have you seen your doctor about bile acid malabsorption ( B A M ) this is when the liver makes to much acid and does not get absorbed in the digestive system this can cause cramps and loose stools urgent need to go to the toilet, there is a test to have this checked out having two scans over a Week I had similar problems like yours after having the test I was given colesevelam its a tablet I take twice a day and my life has changed by 98% I hope this will help you for I know how living with this condition made me feel,
Thank you for this info. I just recently found out about this, I will ask my Dr. I think had an ultrasound in my gallbladder but I will find out. It would be great if this was the answer!!🙏
Ok thank you. I doubt my Dr will do it but maybe she can just try me on the medicine and see if I respond to it. I have the exact symptoms described in BAM. It would be wonderful if this was the answer!!
Your doctor will need to refer you to have this test she can give you colestyramine it's a powder you mix with water I was on this but found it difficult to drink and had bloating from it, hence why I love colesevelam it's tablet easy to take and like I said before changed my life to 98%.
I will mention this medication to her. I am in so much distress and my symptoms have become so hard to manage lately. This would be a miracle if it worked!! I just want to be functioning normal and not dying with cramps and running to the bathroom all the time. Thank you again😊
I've been described both meds in powder form & both were disgusting. My 2nd Consultant 'decided' it could be bile acid malabsorption due to the colour of my stools. I had my Gall Bladder removed years ago. Then I was given the powders.
New 3rd Cons last Nov, questioned if I'd had the B.A.M test & asked if I'd been to Liverpool for this? No I said the treatment was an assumption on my signs & symptoms.
Was taking Linaclotide as he decided I've got IBS C. Taken it for over a month. But as I was so ill & running to the loo too many times on Friday, pain & bloating, enough was enough. I'd persevered & was in pain most evenings so I've stopped taking them & just taking Movicol 2 sachets & not one as before.
So may need a 4th Cons at this rate & will see if GP can refer me to one 'out of the 'area'?
Any ideas out there, I've had IBS since 2014. Thanks, Jackie
Colesevelam is a tablet is a little more expensive than the powder hence why they prescribe the powder but colesevelam is by far the best treatment for bile acid malabsorption I to had my gallbladder out and my life became a misery but since I have been taken colesevelam instead of colestyramine. Powder my life is 98% better colesevelam tablets is what you should ask for
Thank you very much for your advice I'll certainly suggest it to my Cons, although he's the one who asked if I'd been tested then not suggested I have the test? Have you been prescribed Linaclotide at all?
Holland & Barrett or Amazon, I bye it loose goes further put Teespoon of honey in mine, look on internet see where else you can bye it hope it works you
Hi, I have used the fod map diet in the past and for me it hasn't worked and nothing did until I started walking a lot. Suddenly i felt a lot better and although i still had the urgency to go, it felt more controlled and less painful. I hope this helps
I'm on the fodmap diet & also suffer from lactose intolerance, so it can be difficult to cover both of these. At least I can get the 'free from' foods now & have chocolate!
Not a keen walker....waiting for the warmer weather.
