Betaine HCL

I am actually experimenting with Betaine HCL and have just been taking it for a few days. I am taking it for reflux but it seems like it may be giving me more reflux. But it may just be coincidence. I am taking 2 pills 649mg with meals and experiencing reflux about 2 hours later. Is that a sign I don’t need betaine? Am I taking too much or do I just need to keep taking it till I get relief from the acid reflux? Is anyone familiar with how to determine dosage? I just keep reading to take it till you get a burning sensation but I don’t know if they mean right away? I can’t find any instructions that are very clear?

I think you're correct in your assumptions/queries. Trim back to 1 tablet and see how you are. I doubt it's an exact science re time but depends on the person. If you continue with discomfort with a small dose, your acid level may be OK. Good luck.

I take Betaine HCL, but its for people with low stomach acid, not to much - unless there are differen't ones

Thank you. Yes I read that ironically reflux is a sign of low acid. I added an enzyme supplement yesterday. The betaine does seem to be helping other symptoms. I was just a little worried about taking too much. I went ahead and increased it to 3 today. And also changed to making sure I take it at the end of the meal. It has been about an hour since I ate lunch so I guess I will know soon if that is going to make things better or worse. So far seems a little better.

I prefered a more gentle product that contained peppermint oil and enzymes as well. The stronger Betaine on its own was not for me.

To switch the stomach acid back on I had to take a lot in the course of a day to create a little too much, its really great stuff, don't want food fermenting in the gut feeding bacteria. I am glad its helping

Thank you. It is nice to get feedback from someone who has tried this. I have heard digestive bitters can be good. I may try to switch to them with the enzymes to see if that works better. I am also drinking teas with ginger or fennel. They are really good for temporary relief.
