What are the cholesterol drugs which help ?

I have been prescribed Ezetimibe but thought they exacerbated symptoms of D with pains.

I hope to ask gp to change to one of the other drugs ? Questran ?

Im not sure.

Thank you.

Hi calista, I take Colestyramine light. It’s the same as questran. You’ll have to get a prescription for it from your go! Maybe you have BAM (bile acid malabsorption) rather than ibs. So many people are misdiagnosed!! Hope this helps.

I was on Rifaxamin before if that is for bam but it didnt work.

I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again

Well my gastro told me there was no alternative to colestyramine as I had a problem getting hold of it last year & asked for something else!! The supply issue seems to be solved now!! I’ve been on colestyramine light since August & it has changed my life!! Good luck.

Hi there calista , have you ever thought about the low fodmap diet? I've been on it since early January and have to say it's worked really well for me, it works for 75% of people and I seem to be one of the fortunate ones.

I used to have IBS C after being diagnosed in 1996 but fast forward to November 2018 and suffering a bad bout of food poisoning that left me with nausea and diarrhoea every day I was at my wits end. I could take the diarrhoea as it didn't make me feel ill but the nausea was awful. The food poisoning changed my condition from IBS C to IBS D.

I was referred to a Dietician and saw her in January and the diet has been amazing, I've had a couple of hiccups where I've eaten too much of something or where I drank a herbal tea and didn't realise it was high fodmap, who would have thought that for a Digestive Tea! Anyway, I feel so much better now and start to reintroduce other foods this coming week, I'm a little apprehensive as I feel so well but that's the only way to find out.

I hope that you find something that helps.

All the best.
