Really concerned about Stomach pain!!!

Hi all,

I had a really bad case of bloating last Friday (5 days ago) where my whole abdomen doubled in size and I was in a lot of pain (laying down didn’t help with pain...) and I had this new pain where my actual stomach should be located. The pain was hard to describe but feels like a sharp twisted stabbing/aching pain. I had the bloating and this weird pain for almost 5-6 hours and eventually subsided. For the next couple of days I’d have a few bouts of bloating/discomfort, including the same weird “stomach” pain. I started the low fodmap diet 2 days ago to try and control my symptoms, especially with my latest bloating (probably the worst I’ve had in a while).

The diet has been going well, however I got the same stomach pain again today. It comes on randomly and kind of scares me. I got it while eating breakfast; I was really hungry when I woke up and as soon as the first mouthful of food hit my stomach the pain started... the pain didn’t stop until I ate lunch (like as soon as my lunch hit my stomach it felt fine). I have been really gassy for the past couple of days (hoping that’s normal to the Fodmap because it’s more then usual) so I’m hoping it’s just because of that.

Has anyone else had this? Should I be worried?

I’ve been to the doctors multiple times for different abdominal pain and I’m scared to go back cause I know they’ll say they can’t do anything for me and send me away...

The “stomach” pain feels almost like when you get a stitch from running but instead it’s right under the left ribs at the bottom and aches for a few hours

Have you had any tests for BAM/BAD disorder? It's what I have and may be contributing to the pain you are in..

That said, it is probably best you get a second opinion to your do, just for reassurance is nothing else. I don't want to give you the wrong advice .

The GPs should be able to help with pain and you're within your rights to ask to be referred to a gastroenterlogist if the GPs aren't helping you. Any pain treatment might depend on the type of IBS you have. For instance, antispasmodics like Colofac might help if you've got IBS-D. Enteric coated peppermint might also help with pain or the GP might prescribe 10mg Amitriptyline (which is a nerve pain agent) - pain in IBS can be due to the brain picking up the normal activity of the digestive tract as pain. If you have IBS-C, there is Linaclotide. I am on this and it has reduced the pain for me.

Are you on any medication already that you might be getting side effects from? For instance I tried gabapentin (a nerve pain agent), but this gave me stabbing stomach pains as a side effect.
