hi folks! hope you all are doing well.

i just wanted to ask , can someone get an ostomy bag for severe chronic constipation/ibs-c if extremly nothing else works (i'm talking stimulants/enemas /motility drugs and so on ) ?.

i'm basically running out of options and tired of coping with it with laxatives that barely do anything . thanks.

Hi improving,

It sounds like we have very similar conditions.

I am at the stage where having been prescribed most, if not all, the regular medicines - not of which worked even after a short time period if at all.

I now have an enema typically every other day, this seems to be the only way I can regularly empty my bowels, sometimes the enemy is easier than other times but it seems to be the only way I can have a movement.

I have started discussing with an understanding GP with the hope of engaging with a consultant who will offer the benefit of his experience.

My worry is if I have difficulties with successfully carrying out the enemas -

hey! yes, for some people , enemas do work very well sometimes , but they just are very time consuming i think and not that predictable , have you ever mentioned surgery to your doctor?

No, surgery has not been discussed, I remain hopeful, despite the years this has gone on for, that a remedy will be found before surgery becomes necessary.

Are you currently taking any prescription/non-prescription medication that has in some way eased your symptoms?

i basically have tried everything , senekot , miralax ... recently i was on motegrity but it didn't help at all , the week i was trying it, i became severely impacted because i didn't take any laxatives , so now i'm on 10 mg dulcolax daily . but it just seems that i need to keep increasing the dose for it to work .

My most recent attempt at finding an effective laxative that could be taken for an extended period was with a a daily dose of 10mg

Dulcolax, at first I did have a couple of movements but over a 10 day period got slowly worse, harder to pass a stool and very sore causing bleeding piles - having gone through similar results with other laxatives I cut my losses and returned to regular enemas.

Hey, you ever tried working with a dietician?

I have not worked with a dietician so far.

My nephew suffered from severe constipation, was taking laxatives everyday there not a solution to the problem. He saw a dietician who recommended to simply cut dairy and change white bread to brown bread and has completely come off the laxatives and is no longer constipated. Try working with a dietician who specializes in IBS and can advise you on the food that will heal you naturally, and re balance your Flora.
