Predicting IBS C or D

Hi all, I'm a C and D type and at times need to have something to get my bowels moving again and then on occasion have random and difficult to predict attacks of D.

have managed to cut Lactose which helped but some things still trigger me and stress too.

I have had many near misses but yesterday I had a VERY embarrassing accident, I had used laxatives as a last resort on Wednesday and Thursday morning, well Milk of Magnesia actually both times, a larger laxative dose. That worked fine on Thursday then when at work on Friday was standing doing a clients hair and had a very slight BM urge which I simply tried to hold off..next thing I know I have a very sudden warm spreading feeling in the derriere department! Like OMG thats not just wind...

I rushed to the bathroom with much embarrassment and I was stained right through everything and had a very liquid and mixed BM, obviously the Milk of Magnesia had decided to hit me over a day later!

Any tips for anything that can keep me on the level? Anyone else similar?

I have had similar problems with Magnesium. I get bunged up and then I start taking it nightly again. It's OK at first, then it builds up in my system and I ended up with 3 days of liquid diarrhea (like a colonoscopy prep). It is also very dose dependent and I find there is a narrow margin of error to a particular dose doing nothing or tipping you over the edge (plus with the build up to complicate it all). To take a step back have you been through the fodmap elimination and reintroduction diet via a dietitian referred by your GP to find out the full boundaries of the foods that you can tolerate? The ideal situation, if you can, is to find out what level of fibre your system can handle in your diet. Fibre can help both constipation and diarrhea - i.e. making stools more formed (rather than too much water in them) and easier to pass (for constipation). There are bulking agents too like flaxseed - some fibres are less gas forming than others. I am going through this experimentation myself to try to get some regularity without needing the magnesium whilst at the same time not getting too much gas/pain/heartburn - it's a very fine balancing act. theibsnetwork.org is a useful resource of information such as this: theibsnetwork.org/the-self-....

I have found taking a teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar mixed with a glass of water taken first thing in the morning and afternoon stops the constipation. It really works.. Good luck.
