Gallbladder removed 5 years ago

I had my gallbladder removed due to sludge over 5 years ago. I also have IBS for many years. I have pain in the area off/on and get gassy and/or constipated at times. I had an MRI of my back due to a car accident and this is what they put on report. No one seems concerned? I have pain in the area and nausea, should I be concerned? “nonspecific prominence of extrahepatic common bile duct measuring 1 cm”.

Thank you!!

Interesting! I was recently in hospital due to severe pain right on top of the gall bladder (which I still have). An ultrasound was done, then a CT scan. Nothing showing. It was put down to IBS - but surely my bowel is lower?? Still have the pain on/off. So will be very interested to see whether you receive any illuminating replies. The surgeon also said something to me that may have been that I have an extrahepatic bile duct. It was an extra something, anyway! Being told on an incredibly busy surgical receiving ward is not helpful to listening. Whatever I have an extra of, it is common apparently.

Sorry not to be of help but you have my sympathy and good wishes.

That is interesting, sorry your dealing with that and you still have your gallbladder! I get the pain from front to back and sometimes over to left upper side of it really wants to nag on me. I had ct scan and mri. They all say same thing extra hepatic bike 1cm, everyone just says, oh you don’t have a gallbladder, that’s normal. But nothing is done to help. I do take Ox bile (per a naturopath) to help the fats and digestion. If I stay consistent it will help. Will keep you updated. Hope you find answers as well..

I was told same, gas travels and IBS. I was also told that a dilated duct is common and normal to have pain. So crazy!!

It can be normal to have a larger bile duct after gallbladder surgery xxx

It hurts sometimes when I breath in deep and sometimes I feel it on L side. Comes and goes with heartburn. Is this life with no gallbladder? Ugh..

At the minute I can't even stand up straight, I'm in quite a lot of pain. Been bad all weekend. I think it going to be a long night. If it gets worse I'm going to ring 111 to see if I can get to see emergency doctor. I'm not being sick but very nauseous

Oh no!! From the gallbladder? How long has it been out? Has it hurt like this before? Do you take ox bile with each meal?

No not from gallbladder just really bad IBS. Just been in quite a bad flare for a couple of days but the pain is really bad tonight. I must say it's not as bad as gallstones or kidney stones but still very uncomfortable and it hurts to eat. Think I just need something to calm it down. Buscapan and mebeverine do absolutely nothing. Even codeine and paracetamol isn't holding it's own tonight. It's been a while since its been this bad.

I have same, I take Slippery elm (nature’s way), zinc carnosine and probiotics (earth pearl) it saves me. Especially with flare ups. Look on amazon, read the reviews.. hope that helps!

Does your back hurt or just the area?

I'm taking a good probiotic now. Pain is central but towards lower right. I've had it before. I always have some degree of pain but most times I manage. I just can't do anything at the minute. I've sussed out most things I can eat, what i can get away with and what are definite no no's. Sadly I don't have any of the things you are suggesting but right now if I had to injest it, I think it would add to my problem
