Anyone else had a similar situation?

I've been in part time hell since may the 3rd when I took three liquid shots of Flucloaxillin for a skin infection. Within 12 hours my guts were angry and ever since I have spent 90% of this year with gas, intestinal noise, cramps and d*. May-June was horrific, no matter what I ate made my guts aggravated and it caused me the most severe stress and anxiety. Weirdly though.. Some days were better and due to a very stodgy and bland diet of white bread, pasta, couscous and tuna I saw small but gradual improvements. However, August I was bloated AF due to my constipation diet and I found that from afternoon to nights my guts went silent on me. Race to September where I was still experiencing painful gas but it wouldn't amount to anything? I am angry that I took the antibiotic as it has caused me the worst flare up to date but I've tried to sort the problem without using meds.. I've took Imodium roughly 5 times since May which I'm proud of and took one tablet 6 days ago as a precaution on moving day (STRESS) and for the first time in a LONG time have lived 'normally'.. Odourless and painless gas.. Very good and normal stools and managed a mix of vegetables, meats, cakes, carbs and wholemeal bread. Would one imodium sort me out or am I seeing the light at the end of a very dim tunnel here?

Hello, I experienced a similar reaction to Fluoxecillin tablets which were prescribed for an insect bite infection. Within twenty four hours severe diahrrea, nausea, sweats and feeling faint. Phoned GP who told me to stop taking them. Had the same experience with Co-amoxiclav so am very wary of antibiotics. I think one Imodium can calm IBS symptoms as well as the bland diet you mention. I do use immodium sparingly myself. Also Buscopan and very occasionally a small amount of codeine. Hope your insides are continuing to be calm. Katerina1

Thanks katerina - how long did it take for stuff to calm down for you? I definitely haven't been the same since May

Hello,

As I only took Fluoxecillin and Co-Amoxiclav for a couple of days I was fortunate in that my insides settled down within about ten days. The only antibiotic my insides seem able to cope with is amoxicillin which isn't suitable for everything.

I believe side effects are common with antibiotics but I carry a list with me of ones which have caused me problems. Modern medications can be so effective but often with a price to pay. Hope things are going well with you.

Thanks so much. I'm wondering if it was the medication that got me bad or just the ibs afterwards, mine got incredibly bad around 3 weeks after so I suspected Cdiff. You sound similar to me... Scary cos we may need antibiotics in the future. Hope you're OK x
