Lactose free yoghurt (no cream, no sugar added, plain, live cultures-it’s always there with lactose free yoghurt)...

I’d asked the same question in coeliac network (i’ve recently moved to ibs network).

Do you see any reason why it causes loose bm? Do any of you experience the same?

Thoughts crossing my mind: Casein allergy would be more serious i reckon/casein intolerance-if there is such a thing?/dairy fat?/sugar, although it’s lactose free there’s still some sugar in it-even plain sugar can throw me off sometimes?/galactose perhaps?/something to do with my thyroid condition?...

Without knowing which brand (and ingredients) you are using it is difficult for me to give my opinion, for what its worth.

There are many studies available that show evidence of people having Lactose and/or Casein intolerance, especially amongst Asian populations. If you google it you will see many mentioned but just be aware many studies are funded by the dairy industry (scrolling to the bottom of the page will often list conflicts of interest or study funding). The 'dairy' studies often show no reaction to milk products...funny that!

I'm a vegan and I [politely] advocate a plant based dietary protocol for people's health. I do not believe milk is good for humans and there are certainly many populations that are highly intolerant or allergic to milk.

Maybe try cutting out dairy for a while. There is much evidence that those with IBS are often reactionary. Dairy is usually excluded in low FODMAP diets, during the first stage "restriction" phase.

Have you considered Soy Yogurt? Soy does contain Oligos-GOS but is usually tolerated by IBS suffers in small amounts. I would avoid anything with added simple sugars.

It’s jalna lactose free plain. It actually dawned on me just today, that it may have been the cucumber that’s been troubling me. Something that i’ve never suspected before, so i haven’t even google searched it. I’ll go back to the drawing board.

No soy yogurt here, but i’ll be testing soy protein milk. Wondering if i need to boil it once the carton it’s opened and stayed in the fridge 1 or 2 days.

I've checked Cucumber on the Monash University FODMAP app and the Kings College FoodMaestro FODMAP app and both list it as low. Monash says 75g is green in all offending areas.

Cucumber are med-high in Oxalates and Salicylates. Google these naturally occurring substances to understand how they my be intolerable to some

As for boiling Soy Milk (which is also low in FODMAP's) I have not heard of anyone doing this before. What reason do you have...just out of curiosity?

Cucumber being low fodmap has been misleading for me. Cucurbitacin perhaps. Allegedly causing indigestion. Encountered problem was food passing my system unusually undigested. Can’t be sure yet though if this was the case.

Boiling opened milk.. just overcaution really. Obviously unnecessary as you confirm. Point was killing whatever bacteria may have grown there.

Salicylates: there are some evidence against it. Wine or peanut are said to be high in s. I have them regularly in considerable amounts with no bad effect.

I think the 'take out' with all these food compounds is that they effect us all in different ways as I am sure you have discovered. In my experience I was more intolerant, to more things, when I was at my lowest point, health wise. Now I am returning to a more 'resilient' equilibrium as my SIBO is eradicated and my gut flora starts to proliferate again!

At this point in time I still react to Sulfites/Sulphites/Sulphates in foods. I generally eat whole plant foods but dinning out or having a glass of beer doesn't allow abstinence! For me discovering most organic wines are free of sulphites has been a nice diversion...though interestingly it seems some South African organic wines still include sulphites, but least they are listed on the label...in Waitrose at least 😊
