I was prescribed pantoprazole for reflux 2 weeks ago. I don’t know if it’s sheer coincidence or whether I’m just going through a ‘good patch’ but I haven’t had diarrhoea for 7 days!!!! Anybody have any thoughts on this?

When I went into ranitidine for my gastritis, my diarrhoea went away too. It says in the accompanying info sheet that it can cause constipation so whoop whoop!!
It makes you wonder why we don’t get these drugs prescribed for ibs doesn't it?
Well unfortunately there are long term less pleasant (for us) side effects if you keep taking it, like vitamin and mineral deficiency...
I think there’s a definite link to acidity though. I’m waiting on a book called The Acid Watcher Diet by Dr Jonathan Aviv. He’s an American doc who’s produced this book in order to reduce the excess acidity he sees in his patients with things like acid reflux. Excess acidity gives inflammation which might give some of us the diarrhoea I reckon.
Well funnily enough my gp is waiting for a letter from the gastro I saw 2 weeks ago. He said I should go on meds for bile acid malabsorption. My gp said she’ll be in touch once she knows what to give me & the correct dosage so I guess the ‘too much acid’ bit makes sense!!
That’s great! Well not exactly but at least you know what’s giving you the grief! Questran I think is a common and very effective BAM drug.
Yes I’m hoping that will sort me out!! You’ll have to post on here how you get on with the advice from the book!! Good luck.
Will do 👍👍
