I had my colonoscopy this morning. Good news is it’s not cancer. The report notes functional symptoms with IBS & for symptomatic management. I take it this is still not a firm diagnosis. I’ve now been referred back to my fairly useless GP. It’s taken 5 months to get this far, at least after one final moan he rushed this through for me I suppose. Should I now be pushing to see the gastroenterologist? This life of constipation - diarrhoea is no fun..

Post Colonoscopy
Are those your 2 kitties in the pic? That must be a relief when they said you didn't have cancer. When I got discharged from the chest clinic last year after I had been poorly I had cried in relief.
I don't know if I'd push to see a GI, see what your GP now offers, in the way of treatment and whether or not it works. The colonoscopist has basically said treat symptoms, it is IBS.
Hi. My 18 year old son had similar diagnosis ‘functional gastrointestinal disorder - probably IBS’. His Peristaltic function doesn’t work properly apparently so doesn’t push food along, hence constipation, stomach discomfort & only able to eat little & often as gets full quickly. Gastroenterologist said there is no cure, eat little & often, no special diet but avoid high fat & spicy food. Build up exercise again gradually & not worried that he has lost 2 stone in 3 months and can’t put it back on after 8 months) and is underweight. He prescribed Ondansetron an anti sickness drug for nausea & Dulcolax when required if no bowel movement after 3 days. GP equally useless & saw no point in referring to a dietitian so have researched holistic things to try. We are currently doing Low Fodmap diet and after that will try holistic & nutritional consultant. Good luck and I would be very interested in any advice you get to help and indeed if anyone else reading has advice.
Has his thyroid been checked?
