Diazipam before colonosopy

Hi Juniepoonie, Like you, I was anxious before my colonoscopy, but it was fine. The prep takes time and is a bit boring, but the procedure was OK. I was sedated, but was fully aware of what was going on, and watched my insides on the screen. The consultant and nurses were lovely, and they fully understand that you might be anxious. I ended up with a diagnosis of colitis, which explains a lot of what has been going on. Try not to worry, it will be over in a few minutes.
Some years ago, I had an appointment for sedation for the first time at a dentist, but I was very stressed about it, as I really hate going to the dentist.
I only mentioned it in passing to my GP when seeing him for something else, and he gave me two Diazepam to take before I went ...made a big difference to how I felt.
The actual sedation and dentistry (over an hour) was totally painless, and mostly without awareness. Excellent.
(All something not given -including the sedation- when given an 'oscopy' while in hospital with u. colitis!)
I had a colonoscopy yesterday and In my experience (and I suffer with bad anxiety) you won’t need a diazepam beforehand. They give you sedation which calms you down. You can feel everything but it isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. But it’s best to ask as everyone is different. Good luck. 😊
