Please help I have just had blood tests for IBS C to find out what is causing my pains and C . I thought you had to eat normal foods including dairy else they would not be able to test you properly. Well I haven't eaten cheese or dairy produce so will it be possible? I am confused.

Hi. Im not sure exactly what blood tests you have had, but I do know that there is no blood test for IBS. IBS is an elimination diagnosis, that is to say once every other condition has been ruled out. You would need to have your whole digestive system investigated first.

Are you getting confused with testing for coeliac where patients are advised to eat gluten for upto 6 weeks prior to testing? As far as I am aware, there is no equivalent test that requires you to eat dairy. If you cannot tolerate dairy, no need to punish yourself by eating it as long as you are getting adequate protein, calcium etc. from other foods. Your blood tests are probably to eliminate conditions other than IBS, so if they are all clear, IBS is the default setting because your symptoms are unexplained. Good that your GP is taking it seriously.

Thanks so much for your input. My symptoms are a bit different as I have pains after the loo. Feel as if I haven't finishe'd, had a colonscopy which showed I have a tortuous colon. I do not have divicular disease. Thanks anyway

Hope this helps

Thanks so much for your input. If I don't find the help I need maybe I will look into your idea. I have been sufferering for quite a while with pains after the loo for hours. Had a colonoscopy which showed I have a tortuous colon which I think is part of my trouble I have constipation.
