Blood test for IBS
Hi. Im not sure exactly what blood tests you have had, but I do know that there is no blood test for IBS. IBS is an elimination diagnosis, that is to say once every other condition has been ruled out. You would need to have your whole digestive system investigated first.
Are you getting confused with testing for coeliac where patients are advised to eat gluten for upto 6 weeks prior to testing? As far as I am aware, there is no equivalent test that requires you to eat dairy. If you cannot tolerate dairy, no need to punish yourself by eating it as long as you are getting adequate protein, calcium etc. from other foods. Your blood tests are probably to eliminate conditions other than IBS, so if they are all clear, IBS is the default setting because your symptoms are unexplained. Good that your GP is taking it seriously.
