IBS-D vs Steatorrhea

Has anyone experienced steatorrhea before and can tell me what the symptoms appeared like? I can't seem to get an explanation on how it differs from loose diarrhea. I've been having very soft (not liquid) floating stool pretty frequently but wondering if this is normal for IBS-D or if it is truly steatorrhea malabsorption? Does steatorrhea always have an oily later or is it just frequent soft floating stool with weight loss

Tends to be pale, floating, greasy stools. One of my family had it for a while. Probably worth a trip to the GP.

Do you know if the stool was white or brown pale? Maybe there are different levels of steatorreha as mine are normal color but floating and greasy

Pale brown, but not white.

What was causing it or what were they diagnosed with and did it go away?

My GI thinks might be SIBO but I haven’t met anyone with SIBO that has steatorrhea

It was my son when was about 9, GP thought he might have a mild case of hepatitis. It go away quite quickly, but he still has to be careful not to eat too much fatty food. He is in his forties now.

Does anyone else have steatorreha and is it easily distinguishable from IBS-D?
