Hello everyone

Has anybody tried and used or is using Slippery Elm? I would be interested to hear your stories. I have IBS -C diagnosed with this in January after a colonoscopy.

Best wishes everyone.

Hello Teddie123 :-)

I have IBS and Diverticulitis and I have posted recently and I know it was recommended to me by a member

I went of to read about it and it has excellent reviews so I have been on line and ordered some today but now have to wait for it to arrive :-)

When something has such excellent reviews I think why not try it , it may work and help it may not but I don't think we have anything to loose by trying :-)

Hope some more that have more knowledge with this will reply and advise you :-)

Take Care x

Hello LuLu

I ordered some from Amazon after reading about it yesterday for the first time and they arrived this morning. Amazing, so quick.

I have started taking them already. I will keep you posted, so far so good. I have diverticuli diagnosed (besides IBS -C ) and I am wondering if this is causing me problems at the moment, not nice.

So why not try something that is recommended.

How are you managing?

Best wishes

X

in reply toTeddie123

Hello :-)

To be honest I am not managing very well at all :-(

I suffer with anxiety so that does not help the situation at all

I find I get constipated and I suffer with hemorrhoid's so that makes those bleed then I go into a instant panic !

I always seem to have a heavy feeling on the left side since the diverticulitis appeared even though I have not suffered so far with the pain I had this time last year

Hopefully mine will be here Monday at the latest :-)

Before I ordered them I read how to take them and it said 3 times a day

Not sure if to do that or try one for a few days then two and so on

Are yours 3 times a day or just one a day ?

Yes it will be lovely to compare notes how we find them , I would not wish this on anyone but nice to know you are not alone :-) x

Thank you for your reply. I have taken one before lunch and one before dinner.

Sorry about your anxiety problem. Nobody can say how you feel or understand unless they have been there. I do understand.

Best wishes. Mess me anytime.

Thank You :-)

Do you ever have a feeling in your left side like a heavy feeling or is that just me ? :-) x

Please let us know how you get on!

in reply toMaureen1958

Hello Maureen1958 :-)

I got them this Morning and only took one and to be honest with you withing 30 minutes I had burning indigestion and within an hour or so I was running to the toilet with the runs :-o

All day my stomach feels like cramping pains now I am not sure if one could do that or not and hope someone might tell me but it has thrown me a bit

They are 600mg I think it is strength wise and wondered if I should have started on the 300mg and maybe for a first dose what I rook was to strong ?

It really stresses me I never feel I know what to do for the best !

Hope you are having a lovely weekend :-) x

Hi, I think it probably was the slippery elm that did that to you, but I'm no expert. Perhaps like you say a lower dose would be better. Also when I was looking on amazon, I noticed they did a powder, so I guess you could start with a very small amount and work up. Also are you more prone to diarrhea or constipation. You maybe need a smaller dose for diarrhea, just wondering as Teddie123 who has constipation seems to be getting on alright, at the moment anyhow.

in reply toMaureen1958

Hello :-)

I have thought maybe I would also be better having it with a main meal as I do not eat much breakfast so they may not have helped

I normally suffer with constipation but can go from one to the other but this did feel like something had gone straight through me

I think I will try a lower dose and see what happens , it is awful trying to work out what will help us as we can all react differently

Have you ever tried it ?

Thank you for your reply :-) x

No, I haven't tried it. Have heard of it but it was this post this morning that got me wondering about it but after your experience, I am thinking it is not for me. I tend to think of myself as being IBS-D but actually, it seems to be D and C combined these days, which is really tricky to deal with. I hope it works for you at a lower dose. Would be interested to hear how it goes.

in reply toMaureen1958

Hello Maureen :-)

Please don't let me put you of I seem to be sensitive to most things but I will try that smaller dose and see how that goes and let you know , maybe for some we might need to introduce things to our system more gradually :-)

How does your Diverticulitis affect you if you don't mind me asking :-)

I can feel mine all the time in my side , not the bad pain but like an ache and heavy feeling it really makes me feel anxious :-(

I always thought it was bad enough having the IBS but I wished I had never got this D

Did you go and have the colonoscopy done , I am to afraid to go and have it

Sorry for all the questions and of course if you prefer not to answer them all I understand :-) x

Hi, sorry didn't get back to sooner. I don't actually have diverticulitis, I was just wondering about the slippery elm for the IBS. I can feel the poo inside me though, and if it is runny or hard, usually it's a mix of the two. I had a colonoscopy about 20 years ago but not had one since and don 't really want to.

in reply toMaureen1958

Morning Maureen :-)

Yes I feel the same even when I have emptied my bowels I always have that feeling there is something still there it is horrible

I had one as well some years ago and I am the same I don't feel I could go through it again

It seems a worse procedure than ever and I do wonder in this day and age why they could not come up with something a little better than what they do it is enough to me to put anyone of !

Then I sit and worry all the time and dread going to the toilet so seems I am going round in a circle !

I did have bad indigestion yesterday though and started straight after that slippery , so for a few days I am going to leave everything alone and then re group and maybe try again , I could be trying to many different things all at once and messing my system up even more I think

Thank you for your reply :-) x

I know what you mean about about colonoscopies, I think they can do scans now but I am not sure how they work. I think you still have to empty the bowel first. Sometimes I think they should be looking at it while it is full, so they can actually see what is happening, I would imagine that would be possible with a scan. But I guess, they don't really care what is going on, they are just making sure you have not cancer.

I'm also scared of going to the toilet as you never know what is going to happen. I'm even scared of going for a wee now!

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to give it a break for a couple of days and then try again. Also, I only try one thing at a time, that way you know it's not interacting with something else.

in reply toMaureen1958

I agree and my worse fear is that c word

I have to say though I emptied my bowels eventually so not sure if it that slippery or what but I really upped my Fibre this week as well so I think I better slow down and like we say have a couple of days of decide if I want to uptake my Fibre or try the lower dose of slippery but not try doing both at once , bit silly of me :-/

I relate the toilet carry on now is becoming silly with me I am looking and checking everything that is coming out of me no matter if it be front or back

I usually go in the Morning and starting to dread getting up for the fear of what I might see and it is no way to live is it ?

But that is what anxiety does it takes over and mine certainly is doing that

I hope you have a peaceful day and we both can try and put it to the back of our minds even for just today :-) x

Hi, glad to hear it is going okay at the moment. Hope it continues to help. lulu-1 doesn't seem to be having a good experience with it. I think maybe I will give it a miss.

I use slippery elm. It can be used for constipation or diarrhea. It costs the intestines. I take 1-2 capsules after dinner. Many people take more. I'm sensitive to do many meds/supplements, so I go slow.

I also suffer from chronic diverticulitis. I've been having terrible diarrhea for the last two months. Prior to that, it was taking something to help me go! 😵

Good morning.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I read all about it and thought why not try it. The reviews were all positive bar 1 so I started on the capsules yesterday.

Have a good day.

I have IBS-A (alternating). Nothing for three days, then ten times in a day. Buscopam and Demerol for the cramps, was even using Immodium every day for a few months. A friend of mine said that he gave it to his dog for bowel problems. I researched it, been using it for a month, 4x250mg capsules in the morning, the same in late afternoon.

I take meds upon waking and going to sleep, in fear of the mucilage interfering with uptake of my prescriptions. I must say, my symptoms have reduced dramatically! The bloating, alternating problems... I can now got to the grocery store whenever I want!
