This is just a bit of a rant really! Yesterday I had to register a death and our local registry office which is actually in part of the library has a big notice up saying "Please note there are no toilet facilities at this registry office"
Just what you need when you have IBS and are very stressed!

This is a serious problem for IBS sufferers and others as well. Many more bathrooms should be available in supermarkets etc. While I am not too fond of Starbucks, I really commend them for making their bathrooms available to everyone, including those who are not customers.
Unfortunately, the Starbucks in Nottingham requires a PIN code (which is printed on your receipt). So if you don't buy anything you can't use the loos.
A public place like that should have toilets I can imagine just how you felt Registering a death is a horrible stressful thing to have to go and do anyway
It must have made an upsetting task far worse for you
totally agree but some times the public loos are in such a disgusting state made by disgusting people that I have had to walk out - know what you say when you are desperate but the state of some are beyond use - why are people so filthy - why paste on doors and walls -urgh!
Oooooh I know some are so disgusting, they actually make me physically throw up, along with other stuff? I have walked out, even if I am so desperate I want to cry?
I know - I just think you pick up more germs - I know it is awful when you are in agony to use a loo and sometimes you just have to use them - straight home straight in bath though to get rid of anything picked up - I would rather pay 20p for somewhere that is assistant covered and cleaned regularly. |Public loos seem to be rare now but I did read that a pub or anywhere else that has facilities cannot stop you from using them whether you are eating or drinking there - human rights I think it said. I was out the other day and my tummy was churning and I was dreading it as had an appt and all I could think of was if I need to go I want to go home and use my own
I know my husband thinks I am paranoid about germs, but actually I am? I am snobby about the quality of food I eat, as of washing hands before preperation. Also the cleanliness of toilets, and picking up germs in an already stressed body system. After being so incredibly ill, you just can't afford to keep getting infections etc.
totally agree - it's different for men if they want a wee but women it's hard if you have to go even for wee - trousers on dirty floors so you constantly keeping hold, no handbag in contact with doors etc. - I could go on - and I have made myself ill before trying to hold on till find somewhere clean - of the other problem being such a lack of them the queue is miles long - it freaks me out and adds more than enough stress. think as we get older we become more aware of people who have dirty habits -restaurants with dirty utensils, hotels now I think who was in the bed previously goes on and on
I can imagine stress upon stress, while doing a stressful thing registering a death. I did not know about the IBS card, how do you obtain one please? When you have IBS when you want to go, you need to go immediately, any waiting and you y get even more disstress?
A visit to France many years ago, the public toilets were attended and donations made. The attendant kept the place spotlessly clean and deterred idiots who just want to spoil the place. So, instead of spending money on a cleaning agency, local authorities could "Franchise" their WC buildings.
My library will let you use the loo if you ask. They give you a key. Might be worth asking. My son has bowel issues which causes him to wee often (and cannot wait)... and myself an IBS suffer ...with he and I, I often think we should write a book on public convenience... as I feel we have an encyclopaedic knowledge of them in our area!
Hi Janke, just wanted to sympathise and share your frustration re lack of public loos. If I could have a little rant of my own: I live in Bristol and the toilets in both of my local parks have recently closed. It makes me sad and angry that a basic human need isn’t catered for due to a lack of funding. These facilities were my (and I’m sure many others’) lifeline! I also have overactive bladder disorder so, like Mum0fboys, my knowledge of toilets, public or otherwise, in my local area is comprehensive! The closest alternative to one of the parks is a 15 minute walk away...in my book that’s a very long way...ok. Rant over
Our local hospital is no better - the only public loo is a long way from many of the wards (and the Ladies only has 2 cublicles) Of course there are toilets on each ward but visitors are not allowed to use those (for infection control). Presumably as a visitor I could have pleaded with a nurse to be able to use them but there are different staff on every day and I wouldn`t have wanted to go through that conversation every visit!
