Been diagnosed with ibs yeeeaarrssss ago, but I am positive I also have cealiac disease.. I have had two negative blood tests but my symptoms are 100% matched.

Are there any other ways to test for it?

Has anyone else received a negative result?

I am having trouble starting out in my new career.. so a diagnosis is really needed to almost ‘prove’ my symptoms :/

Also I need some guidance maybe a dietician or something to help me change my diet and ween me off gluten x

The problem still lyes with the celiac test being done when you still eat gluten. I’ve been gluten free for years and have always refused the test as it requires me to eat gluten for 2 weeks prior to the test. I can’t afford to be ill that long to prove something. Good luck with yours.

My doctor told me that most people now have some sort of a reaction to gluten - must be years of eating white flour (?). Easiest way I have found is that I have gluten free toast of a morning and when I want to snack and try to stick to natural unprocessed foods as they seem to hide gluten in things you wouldn't believe. I have had a negative blood report but tried eating gluten and been ill by doing so. Good luck -

I had at least a couple of negative tests. Then one borderline which was ignored by gp. Finally biopsied year or so later to find definitely coeliac with substantial damage to villi. Coeliac uk told me it’s far from unusual even if you’re not IGA deficent (which I’m not - but is another reason you’d get a false negative). Really good luck it’s hard I know.

My consultant gastroenterologist told me it is necessary to have biopsies taken during colonoscopy to be completely sure of a diagnosis of coeliac disease due to the blood tests showing false negative in some people.

Thank you all for your replies.... am I right in thinking that people with coeliac disease...if all gluten is avoided that all symptoms disappear? Or are there other symptoms that still remain?

I was told by the specialist I was seeing it can take up to two years to get the gluten out of your system.x

I'm till struggling with symptoms 2 years after diagnosis - though am vaguely hopeful we might be finding a solution - it's certainly not gluten exposure, I am stupidly careful :D.

It is worth saying that I've had fairly strong symptoms for 30+ years (and the consultant thought that was reflected in the state of my insides) - so all the negative blood tests were certainly while I was coeliac.

I know for me I needed the official diagnosis to make me as careful as I am, and force me to do all the really embarrassing questioning of staff in restaurants etc etc. I do hate it, but needs must :)

I am Coeliac. I had blood test results were high. So had to have a biopsy wich came back positive. I can't understand people who want to stop eating gluten unless they have to. I is not much fun. I also have ibs with wich I suffer from most days.

By choice I would not want to of course I know how hard to is the avoid certain foods already as J have anaphylaxis to nuts... but also if that has been my unidentified problem for all these years O want to fine out x

Hey

I took myself of gluten about 18 months ago as i am convinced it was clogging me up💩😂. I was right.

My dr explained that there was no point doin a celiac test as u have to eat alot of gluten for 6 weeks before test as it no point if ur bodies free of it.

He said aless i was willing to restart eating it again there was no point doin test as it would come back negative and i wasnt willing to start eating it again as it made me so ill. Plus giving it up helped me lose 2 stone and my ibs synptoms went and my periods( which always suffered with got abit better to
