Hi all, I have been following this community for some time now and I would imagine that the number of members only represent the tip of the iceberg for people suffering from IBS in the UK let alone the world. I was wondering if there is anyone on here who has tried alternative therapies like Reiki, Hypnosis, Acupuncture etc and had a noticeable success. My reason for asking is that one of the biggest issues that people face who suffer with IBS is the constant fear of being caught short, worrying about a night out with friends or even enjoying a holiday etc. This in itself could maybe trigger a reaction that brings on a bad bout of IBS. So folks any success stories you could pass on, not just for me (who is sick of this condition) but also for the sake of all other sufferers of what can be at times a very debilitating condition. Tia.

mantronis: I just posted what happened with me on this site as far as running to the bathroom with chronic diarrhea all day long. Here it is, in case you didn't see it:
I had chronic diarrhea for years..couldn't hardly leave my house, and was miserable. Although, I never lost an ounce of weight..that was a bummer. Anyway, my doctor put me on a medication called "Welchol." Stopped my diarrhea in it's tracks. It is very expensive here in the States, though, so he has now put me on another drug called "Colestipol." Works wonders, too! If you research these drugs you'll see that they are also used for lowering cholesterol and type II diabetes, but they don't work real well to lower the cholesterol and usually the doctors put people on these, then add a statin. Anyway, these work for me, and I will take them for the rest of my life.
I'vr been tking Colestipol as well for several months. It is a great help. I sometimes do take an Imodium when going on a car trip or to a place where a bathroom is not easily accessible. This probably more for psychological support, though, and I will probably be able to forget it after awhile.
BTW, I'm a Susie, too.
