Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here who suffers from ibs, predominantly d, has tried taking soluble fibre as a supplement and if so, did it help? I would like to try it out but worried it could make me worse. Thanks.

Hi sylvie. I’ve tried psyllium husks in the past and hey did help bulk my stools to some extent. I would say give it a try but start with a small amount and gradually build it up

I had chronic diarrhea for years, then found a doctor who prescribed Welchol for me. I took 3 tablets twice a day, and it worked like a charm. Very expensive, though, so he has now put me on a drug called "colestipol," and it worked, too! I cannot believe I suffered for so many years with no relief..having to run home from work many times to change my clothes because I didn't make it to the pot. Anyway, might want to ask your doctor for this. He'll tell you it's a drug for cholesterol lowering and also for type II diabetes, but many drugs are used for more than one or two conditions...these 2 are a couple in that class!

Thank you, that's very helpful. As it happens I have high cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes so that could work out well for me.

Perfect, Sylvie200!!!! These meds work almost immediately, too! No waiting for a couple of weeks. I am a very happy camper now!
