Quick reaction.

Has anyone else had a very quick reaction to something they have eaten. I went out to lunch yesterday and had salmon and new potatoes thinking I would be fine with that then decided to risk the cheesecake which turned out to be really sickly. Within an hour I had about 6 bouts of diarrhoea then after about 4 hours all calmed down again it was very scary I’ve not had such a quick reaction before.

Indeed. I used to go out with friends for a pizza and every time just got through my own front door in time. Turned out it was the milky coffee at the end of the meal, although I didn't discover this till years later that I was/am lactose intolerant.

So yes, it can happen as soon as half an hour later. It might have been the cheesecake, or even potatoes or a combination of the two. It is a lengthy and frustrating process discovering what you can tolerate. Sorry you are going through such a hard time.

Thanks for your reply I’m just glad I managed to get home before it started I will have to try and find the things that cause it and avoid those.

Hi there, Yes I've had a bad episode like yours recently. I went to my sisters for lunch and all was fine. Everyone else had no problems and we all ate our meal. Within half an hour I had tummy pain and felt sick. I was so embarrassed and my lovely husband drove us home fairly quickly. I rushed to the loo and vomited all my lunch up and then had diarrhoea. To this day I don't really know what caused it. All we had was homemade soup and beef stew. My sister was so upset as she felt she made me I'll. I do have gluten intolerance and IBS but she was very careful with the ingredients. Next time she's going to buy everything for me gluten free from Mark's and Sparks. It's a nightmare! 😞😞

I can have other reactions for a food within a few minutes - not so much diarrhoea but spaced out feeling, chills, pains in arms etc. tight chest so when we are on holiday I dare not try any new food in case there is a reaction. At home if there is something new I want to try I can only have a tiny piece to see how I go - if no reaction within ten minutes next time I would increase it - if there is a reaction I wouldn't have it again. It's a nightmare - food and meals just becomes a prison - wouldn't you all agree!

All the people that replied to you are talking the truth. In my case I am constipated but it does not matter. I am now in such a state that whatever I eat I get a reaction within 15 to 30 minutes. Beside the pain increasing in my lower left abdomen I will get a fever and really feel bad. So to all my i.b.s. friends. Hang in there and try to be our best!!!

Oh yes! Onions! they are in most gravy's and Jus. diarrhoea within 2 hours! Now I always check as there are onions in everything! Once you have found out the problem, then steer clear of it, very boring but at least one feels well and doesn't get caught short. I have to say if I'm not totally in control as to what might be in stuff, I wear a pad, just as a precaution, saves any embarrassment. Good luck.

Thanks for all the helpful replies I have had this happen once before a long time ago. Will have to be more careful what I choose to eat and wearing some protection seems like a good idea just in case to save any embarrassment x
